Grabbers Trailers

Something sinister has come to the shores of Erin Island, unbeknownst to the quaint population of this sleepy fishing village resting somewhere off Ireland’s coast. First, some fishermen go missing. Then there is the rash of whale carcasses suddenly washing up on the beach. When the murders start, it’s up to two mismatched cops – an irresponsible alcoholic and his new partner, a by-the-book woman from the mainland – to protect the townsfolk from the giant, bloodsucking, tentacled aliens that prey upon them. Their only weapon, they discover, is booze. If they want to survive the creatures’ onslaught, everyone will have to get very, very drunk!

What's with the Irish Film Board of late, cranking out loads of low budget hits like this gem.A small time tale of fun with Irish stereotypes, but enough depth, good script, and good acting, and buckets of laughs to make it stand tall.A creature feature, sci-fi, horror, and comedy, even a bit of drama, you can't say you don't get your monies worth. And lots of well known TV and film faces for us UK people to spot.I see Richard Coyle in loads of stuff these days, especially sci-fi,he seems to be able to handle any genre you throw at him, and loved him in Coupling doing comedy.A mention to Russell Tovey who most will know from Being Human. He doesn't seem to be able to turn in a bad performance. The rest of the cast are fine. I dropped my score to 8 only due to some of the stereotype characters these films seem to feel are needed, maybe for the US market. The Quiet Man was a long time ago, move on.

This was shown on the Horror Channel last night. An island off the coast of Ireland is invaded by blood-sucking aliens. There's only one way out - get hammered! The aliens cannot tolerate alcohol, so the locals (including the police) all get thoroughly langered, leading to some amusing comedy, although the rather indistinct dialogue made parts of the film a bit of a mystery. It's sort of bad, but strangely entertaining. Take a good dose of Alien, add some Gremlins and stir in Island of Terror and you'll understand. Despite this, my wife nodded off for the last 20 minutes and asked me what happened. I had some difficulty telling her as I too was drooping a bit....

Grabbers starts off promising, but towards it's prolonged end, it falls short of being something truly magnificent. As far as it's comedic humor goes, Grabbers delivers in small doses. The humor is raw and black, but that doesn't mean there weren't any solid laughs. But the main problem I faced when watching this movie was the clichéd story that we have seen before in alien/monster invasion movies. It isn't that different to the majority and it is too predictable to be a real gem.Grabbers is fun to say the least. But what it lacks is pure substance and originality. It won't be the most entertaining film on your watchlist, but if this is the solitary film that you have left to view, it won't be the worst movie you have ever seen.

I'm no expert, I seldom ever write reviews unless I feel strongly about a film and/or feel that it has been overlooked. Also, I won't explain the plot because that has already been done & is detailed under the heading "Storyline" above. (It bothers me when people just regurgitate information that has already been provided, or worse yet, expand it to 'spoiler' point!) *In my opinion, as a fan of UK films & fanatic of the horror genre, this movie is an absolute gem.*The story is really original, smart, funny & moves along with no trouble keeping your interest. The characters are endearing (even those with more minor roles), the creature is very unique with effects that, I think, are well done. As for the filming location, it is absolutely beautiful, making all of the scenic shots just breathtaking. It made me jump...several times, hold my breath in angst, get a tiny bit misty, almost wet myself from laughing so hard & also made me think, just a little. (the humor is not corny, but smart & witty. It's often subtle)I admit, there was one scene in which a character did not react in the most believable or logical way (Under attack they did not use a phone that was right next to them, etc.). Otherwise, I really have no other criticism.I only watch movies that I really like more than once or twice, & I have watched this movie well over ten times! It's rating seems very low to me & I hope that my input might encourage people to watch despite it's number rating. This is just my personal viewpoint. However, everyone that I have had watch this has enjoyed it and had fun...I really hope you do as well!!
