this movie was slower than freakin' 12 Angry Men. but at least 12 Angry Men had a god damn story line or climax. I am confused, a little angry, bewildered to the brink of exhaustion, and want to punch the sequel in its face. The first movie was incredible! it had a creepy element and included interested effects and top notch gore. this one's blood drive is dry as a whistle and the effects seem to be used as filler. actually, the whole movie seems to be a bunch of filler strung together with little scenes with the cool little demon and the actor from the first one, just to try and keep our attention. and THE ENDING. the ending is like me saying that my entire life did not matter when I spent my entire life walking in circles and pulling on my crank. so... my mind is completely numb and bleeding. thank you GATE TWO!

Sequel filmed in 1989, but released in 1992 in the states, doesn't come close to being on par with the original. Terry, Stephen Dorff's buddy from the original, returns here and this picks up sometime after the last films events. Terry's life sucks so he decides to mess around with the spells that brought out the first films demons. This time, they don't come out of a hole in the backyard, they come out from within you. Plus, they grant wishes, which eventually turn to crap (literally). Below average sequel could really have been good, since the original film's supporting actor and director were included in this project. It starts off promising, with a beginning that looks like it's gonna continue from the original, but then the story goes off in a different direction, introducing ideas and sequences that are somewhat interesting at first, but are portrayed in a somewhat slim and rushed manner, making things rather awkward. By the end of the film, the thing is disappointing, and doesn't look anything like a movie that should have followed-up The Gate. It's too bad there is no hope of a Gate 3, because the original had a good, tight story, likable characters and sequences with lots of imagination. Gate 2 could have been better. The slack pace, campiness, and shallow annoying characters hamper this sequel I remember waiting for a few years at the time to come out. See the original if you like horror. Skip this mis-fire. Pamela Segall Adlon does voices for King Of The Hill. One Star.

Okay, "The Gate" was a remotely interesting little film but we can't have too much of this silly child-horror nonsense now, can we? Part two is a thoroughly dull and unknown (with reason!) sequel that adds nothing at all. For no reason whatsoever, "star" of the original Louis Tripp (looking like an early version of Harry Potter) restarts digging in the monstrous demon-hole, and he discovers that the little critters inside have the power to fulfill wishes. So he and three other, very stupid teenagers eventually face the not-so-pleasant consequences of messing around with ancient demons. After an uneventful first half, the script becomes really ridiculous, with the male teens turning into demons themselves, trying to sacrifice the girl teen… Or something like that. The characters are lame, the dialogues sophomoric and – once again – director Tibor Takàks stupidly pretends that it's a serious horror film. Nothing to recommend here

Wow - this movie has EVERYthing!!! I feel it is MUCH better than the first GATE - I saw the first one on it's initial release in theatres and it was earnest and definitely had some nice special effects moments but overall - rather bland and dorky. But this "sequel" just seems like a gumbo of things - like they threw in everything they could think of to feed the horror audiences in the early 90's. The small demon thing appears is much fun and the side story with the pouty lead teenager and his drunk airline pilot father is unintentionally hilarious. In fact the lead guy is so geeky - like a real low-rent Anthony Michael Hall. For a good cheesefest - this movie is unbelievable! Plus the two sidekick thugs give stunningly bad performances. They seem to be auditioning for either an old Dead End Kids movie or for parts as Sweathogs in the old Welcome Back, Kotter sitcom. There's even an amazing plot development after the teens get one of their wishes granted - tons of money and sure enough the money actually turns to sh--. Yep, even heavy symbolism about the evil of money in good IL' Gate II.
