... View MoreOne of the best UFO movies ever done to this point. This film has scenes of true terror. The character of Travis is played near flawlessly by D.B. Sweeney. His alien abduction is unlike any other thats been put on film. Robert Patricks' role as the concerned friend is a remarkably expressed down to Earth portrayal. James Garner plays an outstanding ultra suspicious investigator. The rural setting adds an understandable skepticism about the bizarre UFO story. The aliens look fakeish, but that doesn't take away from their cold, heartless actions and the otherworldly image they give off. With the same content this movie could easily have been a back shelf bomb. However, careful analysis of thoughts and ideas prevailed. It is based on a supposedly true story and handles it well. The movie also deals with friendship, and the layers it has. The film is different because it deals with two separate issues:Whats happening on Earth/Whats happening with the abducted. Good Sci-Fi all around. The DVD quality is very good. Turn it up.
... View MoreA group of loggers encounter a UFO, and Travis Walton (D.B. Sweeney) is taken. When they tell the authorities, nobody could find any evidence. Soon the police and the public suspect foul play. These friends find themselves isolated and accused of Travis' murder. This is obviously made from the views of the the loggers. Right from the start, there isn't any question if they met a UFO. That's probably the big problem. I'm not dismissing their claim. As a movie, it would help with the suspense if that question remain outstanding for most of the movie. That way they could climax when they answer the question. The acting is very solid. Robert Patrick is as solid as they come. In addition, they have Craig Sheffer, Peter Berg, Henry Thomas, and D.B. Sweeney. All of them have great skills. The movie would be so much better to leave the UFO question unanswered until the climax. As such, it's a missed opportunity.
... View MoreInteresting UFO abduction story. Based on real life incidents involving the real Travis Walton. D.B. Sweeney plays Walton and does a credible job. As does Robert Patrick as Walton's brother-in-law,Mike Rogers. Craig Sheffer and Peter Berg are OK in their brief roles but Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Bradley Gregg as wasted in theirs. As is the lovely Kathleen Wilhoite as Roger's wife. But it was nice to know they are in the background. The late great Noble Willigham was excellent casting as the sheriff who wants to believe the boys of the UFO story but just can't. James Garner also did very good in his sleazy/slimy role as the investigator trying to get the boys to just fess up and confess they killed Travis and stop lying with the so-called UFO story.I was surprised to see a actor of the name of Robert Covarrubias in the role as a persistent news reporter. Nice. I last remember him from Boulevard Nights(1979)(his debut) as a local rival homeboy from the barrio. Another actor I know but really did not see (because his role was so minimal!) was Peter Mark Vasquez.(Colors,Blood In-Blood Out) All in all a good film. Highly recommended.
