So far, Blumhouse Films has done no wrong in my eyes. You can pretty much cover your eyes, point your finger to any one of their titles, and still come up a winner. "Family Blood," unfortunately, wasn't one of those.Yes, it's a vampire story. And, yes, there were variations to that mythos on display here. But that couldn't make up for the fact that the movie was a long, slow-burning chore with characters you don't really care about. At least the filmmakers didn't throw the whole AA/NA concept down your throat...that much.

What a good idea. What a poor production. Brilliant child and teen actors, 10/10. There were moments, but only from the actors under 22. The rest, meh. Best use of 12 step scenarios still goes to Fight Club.

The film opens with Richard, the vampire, snuffing his family. We then switch to Eleanor/Ellie (Vinessa Shaw) who is a recovering addict. She has two teen children. Christopher (James Ransone) takes pity on Ellie and turns her. Her children, we come to find out, has issue with vampires that want to drink their blood. The film moves slow and keeps the horror and gore to a minimum with a lot of action taken off screen. Ellie was never that likable, nor did we get to pity her or identify with her in any way that we could root for her. Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

She has struggled to stay sober in the past and is determined to make it work this time, finding a stable job and regularly attending her meetings. Family Blood can't make up what it wants to be it's split in the middle between drama and horror and it fails on both sides of the same coin. The acting was below average, the script was lame and there's even some shaky cam at times that made it impossible for me to understand who killed who. This was another generic and terrible horror flick. (0/10)
