Pollack (Justin Timberlake) is a young ambitious reporter on the trails of corrupted cops, but he finds a more pervasive rot in the city. Morgan Freeman plays his editor who first fires him then mentors him. LL Cool J plays the conflicted cop, and Dylan McDermott plays the corrupted crazy cop. The cast also includes Kevin Spacey and John Heard. That's a great list of actors. This is Justin Timberlake's first big acting gig. He's basically playing himself, a young buck over his head against some of the biggest players around. So he fits the role perfectly. Morgan Freeman is the wise old man although I didn't need to see him do old man dancing. Dylan McDermott brings great intensity although he starts to overact around midpoint of the movie. And that's when it slowly unraveled. The ending is a mess.

Edison Force is a movie that caught my eye due to the incredible cast, but in reality the movie isn't that greatly performed. Most of them seem to be there for a paycheck, and I was amazed by how much wasted talent was here. My main problem with Edison Force was I had no one to root for. Josh|Timberlake| is completely miscast and his character comes across as whiny and unlikable as well, and I had trouble trusting anyone. Edison Force does the smart thing at the start. Beginning with a bang, a really intense opening of a great shootout, and developing the characters pretty beautifully, but it's all downhill from their. I liked the idea they had with the movie it was interesting, but they failed to keep a consistent pace when it needed it the most. Dylan McDermott's character is probably the best thing about this movie, as I've not seen quite an intense and creepy performance like his in a long while.Performances. Justin Timberlake Can be a capable actor, but here he is terrible. He looks blank during the really emotional scenes, and I just didn't buy his character at all. LL Cool J is decent, but inconsistent himself. At times he was great, others he was wooden, and his character was confusing for me. Morgan Freeman is classy and intriguing as usual, but he looks like he's phoning it in. Kevin Spacey is terribly wasted, and has virtually nothing to do. Dylan McDermott is brilliant as Lazerov. He scared the complete crap out of me with his all over the place performance, he made the movie for me. John Heard is fantastic Capt. Tillman, he's a terrific character actor. Cary Elwes is OK, but has little to do.Bottom line. You will most likely find Edison Force in bargain bins, and my advisement to you is to leave it there. Don't be fooled by the attractive casting, it's not worth the 90 minutes or so. If you must watch it, choose it if there is nothing else to watch4 1/2 /10

First off, I don't have a clue why this movie rates so low everywhere. Honestly, I don't understand it whatsoever. Okay, so it's not Oscar worthy, potential classic or mind-bendingly original, but it's certainly not as bad as everyone seems to be making out.I've read reviews claiming that Timberlake's performance is the worst they've ever seen. Seriously, they couldn't have seen much bad acting if that's what they think. It's competent and believable, void of any awkwardness that some films are plagued with through lack of chemistry and/or generally bad performances.I swear I must've seen a completely different film to everyone else. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey have quite pivotal roles with plenty of screen time, by no means minor characters, and their acting isn't as low-rate as everyone's making out. This film is very plot and suspense driven, despite the lack of plot revelations and in-your-face action (although there is some of that at the end). I've also read of action sequence plot holes such as Timberlake's character, although never having fired a gun before, fires it perfectly, and when he runs out of ammo, 2 more cartridges appear from nowhere - Timberlake's character holds an Uzi for about 2 seconds and he never fires it. LL Cool J's character never has any moments of magical ammo, although the one man against an entire police department is a little far-fetched.All-in-all, it's actually nowhere near as bad as people keep making out. Give it a try before you knock it.

This movie has some interesting things in common with a certain Tom Cruise film. That film, entitled Minority Report, is about a huge police agency that is supposed to prevent crime from happening. Here, its a special agency that patrols a city with a certain brand of martial law. Not entirely similar, but enough to recognize.Timberlake gives enough of a performance to show he isn't just a music performer. His pairing with Morgan Freeman was alright, but I thought they didn't compliment each other enough. Plus, Freeman seems withdrawn for much of the movie and didn't provide enough of a backdrop on him.The ending was predictable to me and the tactics were common in these movies. It was an old formula with descent results. So have a go at it if you must. But remember that Timberlake likes the ladies. "C+"
