this is a beautiful movie..starting smoothly, the story follows through john and when he meets his dream girl molly (Marisa Tomei , which i believe is amazing & she put her character beautifully) who is perfect for her.she is the person whom he can depend on after his ex-wife leave him and then one night when he follows her outside of her house and then in the morning he meets molly's son.then what happens? a 21 year boy living with his single mom dealing with night terror and knowing his beautiful mom's getting bang by the man who has afro hair.. :p Jonah hill put the ''Cyrus'' character with his chubby little funny way.he knows what to do when the Scene comes.you can watch it,it will be worthwhile.there are some little humors which can be very enjoyable.
... View MoreThe Duplass brothers are known for films with a quirky sense of humor and a finely tuned grasp on realistic drama. Cyrus is just that, and it's just what you'd expect knowing anything about the Duplass brothers, or really just seeing the trailer. The film stars John C. Reilly as a divorced man who meets a woman at a party. The two become instantly close, and then she introduces her 21 year old son, Cyrus, to him. Cyrus quickly becomes a wedge in their relationship, playing a variety of mind games to make sure his mother doesn't fall for this new addition to he and his mother's lifestyle.Cyrus is poignant and real, but also a little dull. It does a good job at telling a very human story that plays up interesting human relationships. The problem is that it's a little too real, and lacks any kind of wow factor. It's so human and is such a mirror image of real life that it comes out bland and is devoid of anything that would make it less dull than real life. Throughout the film we basically can see what is coming at all turns. We know how these relationships will play out. There's nothing too astounding or too surprising about Cyrus.I give the film a lot of props for its script and it's collection of fantastic actors. John C. Reilly is great as always, Marisa Tomei is wonderfully believable all the way through, and Jonah Hill shows that he can fit into a more serious role very easily. All in all it's a perfectly cast film and the writing and directing shows obvious talent, but I just wish there could have been more to it. I like Cyrus and I don't regret watching it, but you can't go in expecting it to floor you or really be that great. It's just alright, and nothing special.
... View Morei thought id write a critic because i enjoyed watching this movie.actually its that rare kind of movie that you slowly become addictive with the characters and you wish that it doesn't end.all three actors are really convincing with Jonah AGAIN stealing the show.this guy is emerging in being one of the finest actors around,i hate saying "the next.." but he IS the next Dustin Hoffman for me.quite average in appearance, but once on screen he radiates .great talent, and after seeing Moneyball i'm convinced he should turn his career and play serious movies, because he gives so much in them.Tomei is as always talented and really charming in her own personal style.OK i'm a fan together with the rest of the galaxy.i understand in some reviews being a little angry that she should pick this guy to date.OK she has a child, and maybe she doesn't have the time to date, plus her life is so complex that you really must dig her to give it a good shot.i understand all that.but i also understand that i v gone to many many.. parties in my life.if you look like that guy in looks, and you re awkward,a girl with the looks of Marisa is never going to see your inside wonderful world in a party, and give you a good chance in dating.we all know this to be true.this only happens in stupid movies.and this one is no exception.i'm sorry but you have to be cruel sometimes.having said that, the rest of the movie moves with logic, with Reilly right after meeting his girl of dreams, faces impossible situation like the son rival, with the again outstanding performance of Jonah, who should have won an academy award for best supporting role. the chemistry of the characters is great, although Reilly is not your first choice for Marisa, but isn't that really the theme of the movie?three people that try to do the best they can,in the real world.cause in another one,Marisa would be dating..i don't know..me? hehe,or in a movie lets say Brad Pitt.anyway..,a movie i would recommend .nice, unpretentious, human and well acted.
... View MoreThe user reviews for this movie are tiresome in their complete blindness to the humour (albeit pathos) in this beautiful movie.Social embarrassment is with us all every day. Think about the subtle and brilliant writing of Ricky Gervais! Don't sqirm, just enjoy the humour in our ridiculous tradition of pretending something that's true is'nt really happening. The situation in this film is happening a million times a day in real life, and the Duplass brothers have captured it magnificently. Relax your uptight views and see this for what it is, a classic and brilliantly portrayed aspect of human life. Please stop whinging that this was;nt the COMEDY you were all expecting, IT WAS A COMEDY THAT APPEARS TO HAVE GONE OVER YOUR HEADS!
