There are times during "Cyrus" where Jonah Hill says something or looks or moves a certain way that will have you laughing your guts out. He is as nuanced as a comedian gets and is the most awkward movie character I can ever remember. John and Molly, a divorced middle aged man and a single mother played by Jogn C.Reiley and Marissa Tomei meet at a friends party and start up a small relationship. All John has to do now is meet Molly's son... Cyrus. Jonah Hill as Cyrus is a riot, a comedic invention of bold creativity by the Duplass brothers who have invented a character extremely witty and unique. "Cyrus" as a film is also exceptional, exploring an awkward and dysfunctional group of people who through their uniqueness and dysfunction blend together and solve each others problems. "Cyrus" is a just a feel good movie through and through that will have you laughing fro weeks.

Cyrus is a good movie with a well developed storyline and a terrific comedic cast. It's certainly not an outstanding comedy and it's sometimes a lot more dramatic than I feel it actually needs to be, it should have had more funny scenes that were only made for the sake of making people laugh. John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill all work really well together, there was great chemistry between all three of them, their acting is very powerful and they clearly had fun making this, they're certainly the highlight of the entire movie. I think Cyrus needed to be developed much more, he was very unlikeable, I know the writers intended on this to a degree, but it needed more scenes to make him feel more human, John and Molly seemed like real people and then Cyrus just felt a cliché comedy movie character, which is not what this movie wanted to be, it wanted to be realistic. It's certainly filled with many flaws, but Cyrus also brings many laughs and has some great acting, I would recommend it if you ever see it on television and have some time to kill. A divorced man falls for a woman he meets at a party, but her 21 year old son aims to wreck the romance. Best Performance: John C. Reilly Worst Performance: Catherine Keener

John (John C. Reilly) is in a rut. His ex-wife and best friend Jamie (Catherine Keener) is getting remarried after 7 years. She pushes him to go to a party and he meets the wonderful Molly (Marisa Tomei). They have terrific chemistry together. However Molly never brings her to her home and he follows her. He finds her son Cyrus (Jonah Hill) living with her. He's almost 22 or 21, a real mamma's boy and her bff. He is territorial and passive aggressive in trying to push John out. While I understand where this movie is coming from, I didn't find it at all funny. Jonah Hill is super creepy weird unlikeable, and not the fun wacky quirky. He is uncomfortable and bordering on unwatchable. He has so much buried anger and it is never allowed to be laugh at by making it wacky. It is simply a tiring thing to watch. As for the chemistry between Reilly and Tomei, it's functional. They are very charming actors and I like them. Their relationship isn't really the star of the movie. I admire the daring characterization from Jonah Hill, but I just didn't like it.

i thought id write a critic because i enjoyed watching this movie.actually its that rare kind of movie that you slowly become addictive with the characters and you wish that it doesn't end.all three actors are really convincing with Jonah AGAIN stealing the show.this guy is emerging in being one of the finest actors around,i hate saying "the next.." but he IS the next Dustin Hoffman for me.quite average in appearance, but once on screen he radiates .great talent, and after seeing Moneyball i'm convinced he should turn his career and play serious movies, because he gives so much in them.Tomei is as always talented and really charming in her own personal style.OK i'm a fan together with the rest of the galaxy.i understand in some reviews being a little angry that she should pick this guy to date.OK she has a child, and maybe she doesn't have the time to date, plus her life is so complex that you really must dig her to give it a good shot.i understand all that.but i also understand that i v gone to many many.. parties in my life.if you look like that guy in looks, and you re awkward,a girl with the looks of Marisa is never going to see your inside wonderful world in a party, and give you a good chance in dating.we all know this to be true.this only happens in stupid movies.and this one is no exception.i'm sorry but you have to be cruel sometimes.having said that, the rest of the movie moves with logic, with Reilly right after meeting his girl of dreams, faces impossible situation like the son rival, with the again outstanding performance of Jonah, who should have won an academy award for best supporting role. the chemistry of the characters is great, although Reilly is not your first choice for Marisa, but isn't that really the theme of the movie?three people that try to do the best they can,in the real world.cause in another one,Marisa would be dating..i don't know..me? hehe,or in a movie lets say Brad Pitt.anyway..,a movie i would recommend .nice, unpretentious, human and well acted.
