The New Kids starts off in teen drama mode, with brother and sister Loren and Abby (Shannon Presby and Lori Loughlin) going to stay with their uncle and aunt in Florida after both of their parents are killed in a car crash. At their new school, the siblings run into trouble with a gang of redneck thugs led by drug dealing sociopath Dutra (James Spader at his most loathsome), but hold their own having been brought up to be tough as nails by their army colonel father (Tom Atkins). Pretty blonde Karen (Paige Lyn Price) and ginger nice guy Mark (Eric Stoltz) are suitably impressed.Unfortunately for the kids, matters slowly escalate, until Dutra and his cronies eventually abduct Abby and hold her and her uncle captive at his ramshackle amusement park. At this point, director Sean S. Cunningham switches to full-on exploitation mode, delivering a satisfyingly violent final act in which Loren must use lethal force in order to rescue his sister. This part of the film makes great use of its fun-land setting, with Loren sending one gang member to his death from a ferris wheel, electrocuting another on the dodgems, and crushing one guy's head with a roller-coaster car. Spader gets his comeuppance by having his face set on fire with a flaming gas-pump hose.6.5 out of 10, rounded up to 7 for the eye candy—lovely Lori Loughlin and pretty Paige Lyn Price—and for including a montage set to a cheesy '80s rock tune.

Abby(Lori Loughlin)and Loren McWilliams(Shannon Presby)are two teenagers who have just lost their parents in a terrible car accident.Their Uncle Charlie decides invites brother and sister to his splendid amusement park in South Florida.Abby attracts the attention of the psychotic Eddie Dutra (James Spader)and his gang of redneck hooligans. Two siblings are harassed and bullied by vicious thugs, but this is only the beginning..."The New Kids" by Sean "Friday the 13th" Cunningham is an enjoyable and quite violent revenge thriller with few gruesome scenes and plenty of exciting action.I particularly enjoyed James Spader's performance as drug dealing Eddie. The final scenes of "The New Kids" are jaw-droppingly awesome.8 butchered rabbits out of 10.

Sean S. Cunningham, in my opinion, hasn't had a very good record when it comes to released films. Friday The 13th isn't exactly a masterpiece, and we can certainly find it in our hearts to forgive him for an attempt at another franchise ( yes, I'm talking to you, House 3...aka The Horror Show). However, in spite of it all, the goods of his career are all packed into a single flick, and it happens to be The New Kids. This action packed classic features early performances by James Spader and Lori Loughlin, before Full House was put on the map. The New Kids is a story about two young teens, a brother and a sister, who get up early every morning to stay fit with their father, a military family man who has earned his respect. After the tragic death of both of their parents in a car accident, the young children are invited to go with their relative down south. They'll find themselves staying in an amusement park, troubled with financial problems. It doesn't take long at all before the kids become the target of a ruthless punk named Dutra ( James Spader.) Dutra makes unwanted advances on Abby, played by Lori Loughlin. Sorry, buddy, but...Abby isn't that kind of girl. When you're the daughter of a great dad like that, girls like that are just taught to stay away from the bad boys! Her rejection isn't going to be taken lightly, it's going to get ugly...REAL ugly! The tension and violence escalates to the point where they are left no choice but to defend themselves the only way they know how, and neither one is any place to back down, no matter how much they are outnumbered, and trust me, they are outnumbered. Dutra is in a click with many boys that want nothing more then to deflower the young Abby ( yeah, keep dreaming, she wouldn't give you the time of day!). It's going to take everything they got, everything they were taught, to survive the nightmare. This cool little movie features some unforgettable scenes...I still love the "House Of Mirrors" scene to this day, along with a mishap on the roller-coaster ride. ( Actually, it's a couple of mishaps on the roller-coaster ride, I can only hope the other reviews haven't spoiled it. Hilarious fun! ) The New Kids is a treat for horror fans, it has in depth character performances, some great violent scenes, and a great story line plot. If you missed it, catch it, I assure you you won't be sorry.

There are some 80s movies out there that just have that feel to it. That 80s feel that is just so damn likable. Fright Night has it, The Stuff has it, The Blob...the list goes on and on. And that list definitely has The New Kids in there somewhere. The story revolves around a brother and sister who are trying to live their lives with their Uncle in Florida after the tragic deaths of their parents. All seems pretty good until the school jerks take an interest in the sister. Who's played by Becky from Full House. Well, being well-raised kids, they know bad apples when they see one. So they try to keep their distance and tell these ruffians that they don't want any trouble. Well, too bad for our bro and sis, they've got loads of trouble coming. Let's hope they're up for the battle.Like I said above, The New Kids shares that special charm and energy that most of the classic from the 80s held. It's lively, it's interesting, the characters are fun and over-the-top, and it had some pretty sweet scenes. Shame though you don't get to see Becky strip. Ya get so close too! Even though there's no skin, the flick is still a fun ride and should definitely be seen by fans of the 80s, especially fans of revenge thrillers.
