What happens when the worlds of an alien race that looks like cute little soft toys and a troubled human family collide? Out-of-the box movie magic, of course....we expect no less from film maestro Stephen Chow.Contemporary socio-economic themes, classroom bullying and the challenges of single parenthood are examined and explored, with poignant moments thoughtfully crafted into the storyline.Despite having watched this movie once in the cinema, and five times on blu-ray, tears still never fail to roll. Truly, this is an excellent movie for families with kids to watch together. And we have not even touched on the superb, A-class CGI visuals, and the crazy humour that are sprinkled liberally in the show.Another wholesome, honest-to-goodness movie in this genre to catch would be The Dragon Pearl, starring Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, The Hunt for Red October, The Piano etc.), Jordan Chan (famous Hong Kong actor) and an equally awesome CGI oriental celestial dragon (Naga) that looks photographically real.

Great Movie. Creative, unpredictable, humorous. The kids love this movie. They watch it once a day.I like how it has encouragement to do good and school.Issues at school and all the groups at school.A MUST SEE movie.I won't say anymore.Just that you should watch it.This should be aired in the movies in the US.It's great!! I suggest it for any parents with kids and even parents.Underrated! If you can buy the DVD it has some good behind the scenes stuff and some big surprises.

Another Chow movie has intrigued me yet again. Though, a little different to his other known humour such as ,'Kung-fu Hustle' and 'Shaolin Soccer', this particular movie has portrayed more than just the random bursts of laughter. The storyline may be somewhat average but because it's aimed at a younger audience, it mostly doesn't matter. What's most important, are the contents that are being portrayed. There's an underlying message conveyed to the audience, not only just to the children but to the adults as well and that is, you should cherish the things you already have in life, most importantly your family. Which, in this case the film has portrayed very well to the point where I almost shed a few tears.

This was one of the most endearing films I ever got to watch. Such wonderful graphics you really wouldn't know if it was real or CGI. Stephen Chow did it again with this story of a small alien which was picked up from the garbage thinking it was a toy. But low and behold it was an alien. Giving it to his boy as a present only to see it become something wonderful. What was a most moving part of this film was when Jiao's characters father passed away from an accident of a fall in his workplace. To go home and hear it from a teacher who he admires and to break down in such a way you cannot help but cry with him. Jiao was absolutely flawless when he cried himself to sleep. A heart wrenching scene which I know the theatre also cried with him. This carefree and magical movie was a triumph from Stephen Chow who brought us the hit Kung Fu Hustle. Jiao Xu is young but I think will become one of the most important actors to come out of the Philippines in recent years. His ability to let go and feel his part is something breath taking, he is quite cute to the girls who know him and love him. Stephen Chow I hope will bring out a slam bang thriller which will wow the audiences in the future. But for now this film was one of his best, as well as Kung Fu Hustle. My hats off to a wonderful director and actor. And most importantly to Jiao Xu who gave such a brilliant performance.
