Two criminals, Keats and Moses, end their friendship when Keats turns out to be an undercover cop. Years later the two are forced to work together when Keats is assigned to protect Moses as a witness. This film has an 8% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on reviews from 39 critics. Also, Adam Sandler earned a Razzie Award nomination for Worst Actor for the film (also for "Happy Gilmore", which is actually entertaining). Expectations should be kept low.Director Ernest Dickerson said, "The story is scripted by Lewis Colick, who is much deeper. It was about the responsibilities of friendship. The relationship that Damon Wayans had with Kristen Wilson was much stronger and all that was taken out. The movie was castrated." Dickerson suggests the producer killed the film by cutting it from R to PG-13, but really it stinks all over... it's not just the editing. It's the lead actors.

Starring Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans, the former a criminal, the latter a cop, plot sees the mismatched pair thrust together to bring down a criminal kingpin (James Caan). So it's all set up nicely for a high energy action comedy from the realm of buddy buddy bonanza. Sadly it has energy to burn but the execution of the comedy is weak to the point the makers have to resort to the base level of comedy writing to try and get laughs. The odd line raises a chuckle, but quite often this is followed by a period of inanity, which in turn is followed by a ballsy action sequence (the makers very aware they quickly need to keep the demographic genre fans back on the clock). All this while a budding bromance - that's coupled with some lame homophobic undertones (a revolver up the butt gag? Seriously?) - threatens to turn it into the Brokeback Mountain of the buddy buddy action genre of film. Hell! the screenplay even has the whiff of misogyny about it. The stars are badly served by poor writing and direction, but they themselves are guilty of offering up a chemistry free movie that dulls the senses during all the interim talking sequences. It's hard to believe this is the same pair of actors who have The Wedding Singer and The Last Boy Scout on their respective curricula vitae. This is a waste of talent and a wasted opportunity for something fun and exciting. A pic only marginally saved by its shoot-outs and fisticuffs (for the so inclined of course). Oh and what was James Caan thinking? Working for food or what? 5/10

The soured friendship between a former undercover cop and a car thief he befriended causes tension when the cop has to escort his old buddy across the country in this action comedy starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler. Bits and pieces of the plot are predictable with some twists heavily foreshadowed, but a sufficient supply of quirky moments ensures that 'Bulletproof' never once bores. The supporting cast is colourful with James Caan making a cunning villain and Jeep Swenson memorable as his body builder henchman, though the supporting player who gets the best moments is an uncredited dog, especially funny in the final scene. The highlight here though comes around halfway in as Wayans and Sandler spend the night at an outskirts motel. Mark Roberts is hilarious as the proprietor who does not know whether to take Sandler's verbal sexual innuendo seriously; his facial expression when he sees Sandler at a window is priceless. He also becomes embroiled in the film's single best chase sequence. The action is, however, good throughout with impressive stunts at the mansion near the end and some perfectly disorienting spiral staircase shots. The comedy does not always work, with Sandler's commentary while watching an adult movie simply lame, but the film more often than not has a laugh a minute ratio. Add into the mix some nice messages about friendship and the difficulties of separating oneself emotionally when deep undercover and 'Bulletproof' quickly proves that it is more than just the '48 Hrs.' clone some unfairly cite it as being.

I believe this movie was highly, highly underrated. Sandler and Waynes(spelling?) work amazingly together, in my opinion. It seems that for some reason this year this movie was overlooked, maybe because of Happy Gilmore, which is a possibility.Definitely one of the better action/comedies of the 90's, as you can see I feel strongly about it. The plot is very interesting, and there definitely are some twists and turns that do keep you guessing. As you can see from this movie Sandlers career went uphill, as Waynes seems to have fallen. This movie reminds me a lot of Nothing to Lose (starring Martin Lawrence) and other movies of the sort. I don't know what it is but I have a soft spot in my heart for the 90's action/comedies.
