BLOOD CREEK is a low budget slice of rural horror that works pretty well for what it is, building an effectively queasy atmosphere from beginning to end. It has a sense of unease that works very well, particularly in the first half which is all effective build-up. Surprisingly enough this film was directed by former Hollywood big-shot Joel Schumacher, nowadays fallen on tougher times which I think is a shame as I always enjoyed his movies.Dominic Purcell and Henry Cavill (pre-MAN OF STEEL) play brothers who venture to a remote farmhouse that houses Nazis. There are many twists and turns, most of them of the supernatural variety, in store for the brothers and their subsequent adventures are pretty exciting and scary at times. Michael Fassbender also appears just before he hit the big time and makes for an imposing Nazi villain. The story's zombie themes are handled well with the novelty of zombie animals being put to good use, although it's a pity that the CGI zombie horse effects aren't all that. Otherwise the tale is efficiently gruesome and dark enough to work; watch out for SPLINTER's Shea Whigham in a nice little victim role.
... View MoreThe story is very weak. They tried to give the movie some background by throwing in Nazis and Hitler's ambition for immortality but to no avail. Take out the Nazi bit and its a horror cliché, with a sorcerer turning himself into monster to be immortal and has to consume blood to go on. Gee we haven't seen that one before! The zombies (vampires?) are not scary and the main guy is first a mummy then he becomes Hellraiser without the pins. The animal slaughter is not scary but simply repulsive.I've only given the movie 5 stars because Henry Cavill is super hot and gives us at least something to look at (yes I'm superficial so what?) and Michael Fassbender steals the movie in the short time he appears as human. Don't waste your time if you're not a Cavill fan like me.
... View MoreI should have known better really. Whenever a film is made that consists of actors who are more well known for being in TV shows ( In this case Henry Cavill - Tudors and Dominic Purcell - Prison Break ) they tend to turn out to be Turkeys. In the case of Blood Creek , this is a Turkey big enough to feed a whole country at Christmas. As far as i can tell , this is the story of a family of German descendent's who call on the services of a Nazi general from Germany but only end up being haunted by this man who has occultist powers.I think that's what it was about anyway because this film was a complete and utter mess from start to finish. I have no idea what director Joel Schumacher was on when he made this film .It looks like he shot a few hundred scenes , threw them on the cutting room floor and put them all back together in the wrong order.I haven't seen a horror film as bad as this since The number 23 - Directed by ? You've guessed it . Joel Schumacher. On this showing i think it's about time he gave up directing and concentrated n something he's good at because directing isn't one of them.
... View MoreOne thing I have gotten quite tired of is generic zombie films. Let me be clear in stating this is not one of those. This movie starts out with some WW2 Nazi doctor experimenting with the occult, necromancy and Norse mythology all intertwined together. Needless to say it makes for a decent plot line. What I found separated this movie above standard zombie slasher fare was the story and mythos blended with a good amount of lore. The movie spans a time period of many decades and is easy to understand. It is scary at many times and will definitely get a few jumps out of you.Bottom line: this movie is above average for a B movie- in my opinion its definitely worth the watch. Dominic Purcell of Prison Break fame does a good acting job as usual and makes the movie work! Check it out!
