What were these actors doing in this exploitation movie? Michael Douglas (he of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest fame) even co-produced this! Must have seemed better on paper.

The characters shared bonds that initiated much of their decisions. The environment was a character in this film. You don't often find that the setting/scenery in which the movie takes place to be so influential, but in this case the environment really acts as though it is its own person. The desert had character development and personality. It played a key role in what made this film what it was. The other thing to point out would be how unparalleled the story ark was compared to any other film I have seen. There was man vs. wild and man vs. man and those two attributes were very well articulated throughout the film. CONS: The one thing for me would have to be how confusing the end of the movie got. I was stuck with the legitimacy of the storyline. The whole film you were gifted with an exceptional idea and setting, but at the end you get a very unwelcoming slap in the face when the movie tries to add stuff that it really didn't need. The extra bells and whistles weren't able to enhance the film which is what their goal was, but in fact it actually drew away from the pureness and integrity of it.www.chorror.com

View MoreSo, an obscenely wealthy, outrageously self-obsessed and thoroughly unlikeable guy who drives a ridiculously expensive, ugly and faintly laughable RV across a bleak desert in search of "big game" engages a young and impoverished guide to point him in the direction of his intended prey. Shockingly early in the movie and before we have really assimilated this premise, something happens which follows standard dramatic lines, i.e., a change occurs. This has the result of causing some hastily cobbled together and panic-stricken plan changes by the protagonists. The relationship between the two dramatically changes, and for the worse. The "big game" now becomes the young man, who is chased across the scorching desert by the detestable millionaire. But Mr Nasty doesn't want to shoot the young man, that would implicate him, instead, he stalks him relentlessly with the aim of waiting for his natural death under the glare of the sun. Predictably, because he has an intimate knowledge of the desert landscape, the young guide outwits the hunter at every turn, which leads to some entertaining situations. All in all, a worthwhile watch, if a little slow. Some nice photography, the heat is almost palpable. Best seen on a big screen.

The film is about a shooting accident, that results in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse between two very different men.Businessman and game hunter John Madec(Michael Douglas), hires a young but experienced hunting guide Ben(Jeremy Irvine) out to a field trip beyond the reaches of the Mojave Desert to hunt game. When Madec accidentally shoots an old prospector, Ben insists that they must report it as an accident. Madec, on the other hand, puts another bullet from Ben's gun into the corpse, and after explaining how he can now blackmail Ben with the new evidence, offers Ben a deal: Madec will put him through college and give him a $300k/year job in return for his complicity in covering up the crime. But when Ben picks up his emergency transponder, Madec destroys it and berates Ben for breaking the deal. Madec then threatens Ben with his high-powered rifle, and orders him to strip all of his gear including his clothes, then leaves him in the desert to die of dehydration and exposure.Watch the film to find out what happens next...Everything in this film is top-notch, from the acting, photography, background sound-effects and direction. This is a polished script and well executed by French director Jean-Baptiste Léonetti who has directed the acclaimed French drama Carré blanc (2011). Beyond The Reach is based on the 1972 novel Deathwatch by Robb White. The film is produced by Michael Douglas, showing that he has faith in the film doing well at the Box-Office.Verdict: 10/10. I got my money's worth and more.
