The story of friendship that grows between a paraplegic millionaire and his man Friday who takes up the job of caring for the rich man is a true story translated on screen by Olivier Nakache & Eric Toledano who are credited with the script and Direction for the French movie "Intouchables" released in France on 2nd Nov 2011, since release date of Beautiful is 2nd Dec 2011. One could only say that both could be based on literary work or articles on the true life account of Phillipe Pozzo Di Borgo and Abdel Sellou, the central characters of Intouchables (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1675434/).Guzarish (Hindi release 16Nov 2010) was a depressing tale as Jayasuriya;s character Stephen rightly puts it in the movie Beautiful. The adaptation of the story to suite Malayalam audience and the simplicity with which the character and events are portrayed keeps the movie interesting. The actors have done a very good job. The director essentially keeps the pace of the movie and concludes the proceedings with an interesting twist. Overall a decent movie.

The script and movie is on a floating level just above the reality status. The decision to shoot the film with digital camera also plays a major role to achieve this feel. The underlying theme of the story is that every relationship or connection is based on the fact someone expects something from the other or vice versa. With this set, a paraplegic (Stephen), an outsider/stranger (John) who befriends the paraplegic and a home nurse (Anjali) for the paraplegic are thrown in. Many sequences and lines delivered by Jayasurya brings out his thoughts about being bed-ridden. And most of it just kind of zereos in on the sensual part of life. And it doesn't come as a surprise that the home nurse is either always drenched in water or wet. The story keeps moving in and out of the main theme and sometimes it runs the point right through to the heart. Other than that, I would say that the script is not that strong but I felt compelled to watch the whole movie unfurling with every shot. This may be attributed to the positive attitude that is maintained throughout the movie. The use of digital camera and some crisp editing brings in some of the best rain sequences ever witnessed in malayalam movies. And the BGM is also something that stood out really well. Overall this is not a stellar movie but it is worth spending 2 hours for the effort.
... View MoreBeautiful is one of those movies which surprise you because of its simplicity. Beautiful has a very simple story about the life of Jayasurya a rich paraplegic but what makes the movie stand out is the script by Anoop Menon. He has made the movie enjoyable. Despite the main character being paralyzed from neck nowhere does the movie become's clichéd , sentimental or melodramatic which is another positive.Performances Jayasuriya continues to impress me with his growth from a comedy actor and delivers a memorable performance. Anoop Menon impresses as the singer and Jayasuriya's friend. Meghna Raj looks beautiful and puts a nice performance. There are a lot of subtle comedies and nicely written dialogue in this movie. On the negative side I found the music average and one song was unwarranted.Malayalam Cinema need mores of such well scripted films. 8/10 Watch it
... View MoreI was amazed by simplicity of movie. No Major Cast, Simple Story. Yet Beautiful is indeed 'Very Beautiful'Starring Jayasuriya, Anoop Menon and Meghna Raj in Main roles, And supporting cast is shared by Tini Tom, Tazni, Nandu, 'Singer' Unni Menon. Best ever performance of Jayasuriya. Anoop Menon also had written script for movie along song lyrics. He is future of Malayalam Industry. Meghna Raj seen in Infamous Vinayan movie 'Yakshiyum Njanum' is perfect as Home - Nurse. Good songs, nice music and some quick wits also makes more interesting. Film basically tells about the friendship of Stephen(Jayasurya) and John(Anoop Menon). Movie have a surprising climax which is unexpected. Kudos for Anoop Menon. V K Praskash is director of the movie(his best ever) Good family entertainer to be watched in Theater. Support this kind of nice movies.
