The movie starts off simple (no beating around the bush and stretching the story; it is straight to the point) with Jay (Scott Speedman) who is a janitor in a psychiatric hospital. Jay owes a lot of people money and is actually on probation for the janitor job. He likes to spend some of his time with some of the patients. But the psychiatrist does not approve of this as Jay usually provides them with porn materials and booze. Anyway, one night, he saves Daisy (Evan Rachel Wood), a newly admitted patient in the psychiatric hospital, from getting raped. From that point, Daisy follows Jay as she does not want to stay at the hospital. As the story unfolds, we learn that Daisy has never stepped out of her house her entire life when her mother was alive. She is different and her sense of communication is different as well. Daisy is naive and we even see her lack of awareness of social rules but her character is nevertheless charming and will warm your heart as she is innocent and genuine in her own way. Jay takes Daisy home for his brother's wedding. Things soon get messy as Jay's parents find out about the real identity of Daisy. This movie was heart warming and different. Evan Rachel Wood portrayed the character of Daisy so well. The way she acted confused in pure innocence and the way she responded to the environment around her was amazing. She played her role really well. Loved it!

How many times has this 'igganunt' story been hashed out? Smart(?) handsome young man falls in love with a mentally disturbed yet beautiful young girl. Everybody cheers for the stupid chick and everybody loves the young handsome man because he has taken the 'igganunt' mentally disturbed beautiful young girl into his love starved heart. Think of that piece of crap '50 First Dates' . Why did I watch this movie? The girl Daisy (Evan Wood) belongs in a special institution for the mentally insane and he Jay (Scott Speedman) is about ten minutes from death because he has borrowed from the underworld to cover his gambling debts. These two meet and hit the road! HOW ORIGINAL! Then retard Daisy just charms Jay's ever-so rich family so much that they just squeal with delight that Jay has bagged a fish. All ends happily with all the expected bumps in between. Oh, and by the way, it's called 'Barefoot' because Daisy has no concept of what shoes are.Oh, what a stupid movie!!!!

This is an interesting story and we didn't want it to end, but the telling of it has several holes and several parts that aren't believable enough to make the telling of the story flow well and to make it great. Would love to see it reworked a bit. They do a great job with the low budget. The cinematography is great. Almost all of the acting is great. The vocab is less than great though. There is an unhealthy helping of "ew" vocab which is just uncool. It would have been fun to hear non-barnyard words in its place.Despite the holes in the story and the vocab, it's definitely worth watching. Scott Speedman and J.K. Simmons are almost always worth watching.

Unlike any other predictable romantic love story, "Barefoot" tells a love story about two unordinary person - an isolated girl who's been accused for mentally ill and troublemaker son from a wealthy family. The story was nicely developed along with the leadings' characters. It made me stay until the end of movie to see whether it would go for happy ending or tragically twisted.Though in my opinion, Evan Rachel Wood was more shiny than Scott Speedman. In some scene, Scott seemed unable to show his struggle expression but it has been covered by Wood. It was definitely my selection for valentine's day. Too pity, I knew the movie few days after when it was played on cable TV.
