This is an unusually bad film which exhibits writing style, but poor execution. Two crazy ballerinas go on a drug and kill rampage. However, this is a story within a story as their antics are controlled by another ballerina who is writing the script, including surreal scenes, and what was that with the snake? The film is designed to show us how all films, no matter how real they seem, have a puppet master over them. It is an interesting if not artsy concept, except the production died on its budget and talent. The ballet profession is comically summed up as "I am selectively bi-active when drunk."The dialogue ranged from clever to very bad. With very bad being the lingerie scene which ended in a non-nude cat fight. I liked the brief semi-meaningless Ouija Board scene. The ballet studio was an empty apartment which had sound echo issues which made the film choppy. The actors read their lines horribly. In one scene a woman is painting a topless woman while having a conversation with her. The topless woman being painted has her back to the camera the entire time, even when talking. You can do a facial closeup if nudity is the issue. The film didn't know which way to go: Artsy? Comedy? Horror? Campy? It failed to cohesively combine them into an entertaining movie.Guide: F-word, girl/girl nudity (Jessica Knopf, Marla Martinez, Sydney Raye Smith) 5 generous stars for bloody nudity with a snake.
... View More"Ballet of Blood" is a horror film with as much gore in it as it does action. Yes, there is violence. Yes, there is nudity. The cast are made up of beautiful, athletic, and young starlets. This film portrays havoc on the dance floor that deteriorates a dance company. Teen ballerinas strike their fellow dancers in the worst ways. Terror is highlighted with senseless killings as well as precise attacks. The murder scenes have a very poetic and psychedelic feel to them that is rare in its entirety. Many questions are raised that plague today's youth about one's sense of self and true belonging. Throughout the film a misfit teen culture is outlined to show the characters' disconnect from reality and lack of respect for morality. There is as much beauty as there is blood in this film. From beginning to end "Ballet of Blood" was entertaining.
... View MoreFor the amount of drugs in this movie, you'd think there would be a LOT more actual nudity. If there were, I'd give it a higher rating. As it stands, the movie revolves around a bunch of 7's hanging around in unitards and, when drugging it up, lingerie while they wait for a psycho ballerina to show up and kill them. And it's a loooooong, long slog, folks. They "dance" about as well as they "act". But this movie isn't about delineating characters or trying to engage the errant viewer into investing in anyone. Nobody's likable. It's not even clear why they take so many drugs. Maybe it's a ballerina thing?Shot entirely on hand-held, the lighting is atrocious and the sound levels fluctuate wildly, specially, the head of the school who, judging from the amount of silicone dump in various parts of her body, had a Russian accent so thick they dubbed her voice. It's a point and shoot affair with no pretensions as to what it's about. But it fails at that, too? Suspense? Nope. Horror? Nope. Gore? Nope. Sex? Nope. Titillation? Nope? Drama? Comedy? Nope. Well..there's a few hilarious lines such as "there's nothing sexual about doing coke off of someone else's body" but that's more the miserable line reading than anything else. Summing up - this is shite, pure and simple with literally nothing to recommend about it. One star for trying. One star to keep it off the bottom 100 so no one's watches it by accident.
