*Contains Spoilers*For the most Alien vs. Hunter is painful to watch. The acting is especially bad even for an Asylum film and the first hour or so is nothing short of boring. A few people are suspected dead and the remaining residents of a town hold a meeting to decide what to do, sadly this is stretched over at least half an hour. The plot is a pretty simple one that is somehow made complicated, or perhaps not complicated but broken in a way that no other plot could ever be. The film assumed the viewer has seen or knows what Alien vs Predator is about; there isn't really any explanation as to what is going on or why and it wasn't until a brief explanation late on in the film telling us the 'Hunter' won't stop until the hunt is complete do we 'learn' that the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz is hunting the Spider-Alien (who actually more resembled a Predator). The thing I love about SyFy films is that it's so easy to guess who is going to live and who is going to die, and AVH is no different. With characters called Figgus, Freckles, Valentine and Two Fingers you can't expect much, and the acting didn't disappoint. It was truly awful. It really is that bad. Illogical decisions and stupidity seems to be especially prominent in AVH but it wouldn't have made much of a film if they had escaped town as soon as possible.I try not to knock Asylum films for their poor CG either but it has to be touched on here as they are of such a low quality they would have been shocking for 1980.Fear not though as AVH has an ace or two up it's sleeve. The last 20 minutes or so are fantastic and by far the most fun an Asylum film has delivered. It's comedy gold with non-stop awful CG and completely unsynchronized and over exaggerated acting in what is the grand finale. It has to be seen to be appreciated but I haven't laughed so much watching a film for a long while. It makes little sense but that doesn't matter, it entertains. The very end deserves a mention as well. The Tin Man hunter returns to his ship, takes his mask off and like the rest of us after a hard days work, he has a smoke and a can of beer. Top stuff. In summary there is no reason what so ever to watch the first hour or so but the last 20 minutes shouldn't be missed by anybody. I want to give AVH a high score based on these alone but the truth is that even for an Asylum Film it is pretty bad and it can't hide how awful the rest of it really is.
... View MoreThis film is so bad: script, editing, set, props, camera angle, acting, costume, characters - the list is seemingly endless, that it is strangely entertaining. It's clearly a (bad) rip-off of the Alien v Predator franchise to start with, but that is the very least of this film's crimes. It gets worse. The Hunter's costume is so poor, he looks like some idiot you'd see at Memorabilia or Comic Con. You know, the ones that think they look cool... The Alien's getup is diverse from the alien we all know (and love) enough to be unique(ish). But it's still terrible. I would say, "Watch this film if you want a laugh", or if you want a lesson in how NOT to make a film (or act, for that matter). If I could kick my own ass for buying it, I would.
... View MoreI registered on IMDb specifically to write this review. I cannot just say that this movie is horrible, because it would be a huge and undeserved compliment to it. The real story is that this pile of garbage was masqueraded as a movie, while is not a movie at all. All aspects of this production are so unprofessional, so there is nothing at all to appreciate. I think that if anybody related to this project had been in a movie theatre, they would never have tainted their names with this rubbish. I watched it to the end just because of my admiration of them for making everything so sloppy and amateurish at a level I never thought possible. They would be a better off making a comedy out of it. I think everybody involved in creating this "masterpiece" should be banned for life from getting closer than 100 meters to any video recording equipment.I give it one star, because unfortunately IMDb does not have 0-star rating, which what this "movie" really deserves. With all my heart, I give my vote to this production for the "worst movie ever" category.
... View MoreSometimes a movie is so bad that it's good (i.e. Night of the Comet). This isn't one of those movies. Some movies are so bad that you wish you had never seen them. This would be one of those movies, but it has one redeeming quality: it sets a new benchmark for horrible sci-fi / horror movies. Once you've seen it, you'll watch other movies and find yourself saying, "Well, at least it wasn't as bad as 'Alien vs. Hunter'".Looking past the fact that this is a complete ripoff of "AVP", the acting and production quality aren't too bad. What ruins this movie is the plot / script (not sure what word is best here). It's not that the movie is confusing by any means, like when a complicated movie gets edited too much and loses its meaning, although it does seem that editing is at least part of the problem. There are plot holes left and right, and I constantly found myself wondering why the characters acted as they did. Sometimes you could chalk it up to the typical "girl runs upstairs to avoid murderer" nonsense used to draw the plot along, but other times it just seemed to be random events strung together. It would be like watching a movie where a guy is running from a monster towards an abandoned hospital then the monster is chasing him through a house of mirrors at a fun house. And now my brain hurts from trying to think about the movie. Go see it if you want your brain to hurt.
