I've watched my dvd of this particular Anne Frank movie over and over. It's the best one I've seen yet for accuracy. It's closest to the unabridged version of her diary that I've viewed. Portrays her thoughts accurately. It is to difficult watch, but as a world, we MUST.
... View MoreBeing an Anne Frank fanatic since I first learned about her, I was thrilled when I saw this movie for rental at the video store. I saw it many times since because it shows her whole life from 1939 - 1945. Gordon, Kingsley, Blethyn and Taylor are good names and they did splendid jobs but so did all the actors in this film. I read the biography too and Melissa Müller portrays a full, true picture of these people and their lives in those dark times. I gave it 9 out of 10 only because it contains a few errors but otherwise best Anne Frank and Holocaust movie to date in my opinion! Also, I wish it would have been shot on location in Amsterdam. The last part of it is an important part of our history that simply can't be allowed to happen again and therefore it must be shown through movies like this!

View MoreLiving around the corner of the Dutch Verzetsmuseum (Museum of the Resistance), a (now quite posh) neighborhood where Anne Frank was born and raised for 13 years, I've always had a special interest in the Anne Frank books, films, theater plays and literature. Many of you might not know that the Amsterdam Anne Frank Stichting has to approve (not license - it's a not-for-profit foundation against discrimination in general), on behalf of the Frank family, before any film or title about Anne can be commercially produced.Nevertheless, I've seen many grotesque movie adaptations - many of which portray Anne a bigger heroine than she actually was, often played by an actress twice her age (!!), i've been disappointed oftentimes. On a side note, I would have been happy to pay big money to've seen Natalie Portman in the theater adaptation she was supposedly in a few years ago. This now, "Anne Frank The Whole Story", is something else. It's a very beautiful film, first of all, despite shot in Prague, depicting Amsterdam in a true way, about Anne Frank - not so much relying on her diary - but her life and times beyond the "Achterhuis".I actually believed Hannah Taylor-Gordon, who is a joy to watch anyway, portraying the Anne Frank as I imagined her; happy and merry, steadfast, precocious and foremost just a plain dutch girl.Needless to say, Ben Kingsley is great, and so are the many other talents. But this actress, she stole the show for me, and because Anne's story appeals to so many people worldwide, this should be a cornerstone in her acting career. As this was largely a Czech/American production, I think it's time the Dutch start making a true-to-life version. After the Germans with the brilliant "Der Untergang" about Hitler in his bunker, I think the Dutch should have a go at this for dutch history so important lesson. If there's not enough money possibly a co-production. Because it's still rather ridiculous to hear all the characters speak with British and east-European accents.Plus as far as I can tell, the Netherlands have plenty of acting talent.Meanwhile, this one's a keeper until then. Highly recommended.
... View MoreOnce again I had to watch this movie as a wrap to the Holocaust unit in English class. Let me tell you right off the bat, I cried so hard at the end. I had to leave the room I was crying so hard and I couldn't stop. The only movie that has ever made me cry is Titanic. This movie is perfect. It follows Anne through her years before hiding and after they are found.Anne Frank was an ordinary teenage girl. She wanted to see the world and be famous. Anne loved her father but didn't get along so well with her mother. She was forced into hiding from the Nazi's in a small attic with seven other people. She had to go through ordinary teenager things, like getting her period, in hiding. She couldn't see her friend or other family, or this boy she had a crush on before she went into hiding. She later falls in love with Peter, one of the people in hiding with her and she clashes with people in the "Secret Annexe" what she calls the hiding place. When they are found, it broke my heart. When they are in the concentration camp it broke my heart. I basically cried from the time they are found to the time that Anne and Margot die at Bergen-Belson, and let's not forget Otto Frank just collapsing when he found out his wife and children are dead. All in all a very powerful movie. The best Anne Frank movie made. A must see and must own.
