I love the title & artwork for this film, assumed that it was a slasher movie but it isn't. The cheerleaders do indeed die, killed in a car accident caused by a jealous & drunken jock. Luckily(?) for them one of their friends happens to be a witch who brings the hot chicks back to life using magic crystals. Bloody havoc ensues. A bit slow to get going but once it does it's a reasonably good mix of horror & comedy with some decent gore thrown in. Definitely a film aimed at a teen audience, it does have a Buffy/The Craft feel, plus of course girls in bikinis & guys with 6 packs. Be sure to check the name on the grave in the final scene, the film suggests that this is Part One. Can't say that a sequel is something I'd get excited about though.

I've never been a big fan of Lucky McKee, even though I've only seen a few of his films. He comes of to me as an utterly pretentious, man-tool feminist. And this mess of a "film" is no exception. There's nothing funny or clever here. We're presented with a cast completely consisting of truly fathomable characters. We're also expected to overlook ridiculous things like the idea that magic, glowing rocks bring a group of air-headed cheerleaders back to life with an inexplicable (and unexplained) taste for blood. So we have a bunch of surprisingly average looking girls (who's acting skills aren't much better) wandering around, glowing like light-brites as they suck the blood out of jocks with the wretched power of CGI. Dismal stuff with no redeeming values. Please spare yourself, and don't give this guy any more of your money. Horror cannot be achieved through metaphorical, feminist crap like this.

I've waited a while before I finally tried this, heeding warnings like 'chick flick', 'silly FX' and 'terrible soundtrack' and lots of low ratings, but the title and the fact that Lucky McKee is one of the directors... I just couldn't wait too long.Let's go over those warnings first. 'Chick flick'; I don't really understand why anyone would call it that - it's a supernatural horror comedy. 'Silly FX'; sure, those flashy stones do not make for perfect FX, but they do get a symbolic point across if you're willing to go along with the crazy twists in the story. 'terrible soundtrack'; yes, there's a lot of pumped up music that I normally don't care for much, but since this is such a pumped up film with a story that unfolds at breakneck speed, I found it appropriate. On the other hand, I understand that this will not be for everyone (in the hands of the wrong director, this could have failed terribly).Anything else? Hot chicks galore (Brooke Butler!), twisted humour and at the core a tale of true girlfriendship (perhaps a dash of chick flick, after all). Lucky MacKee does it again, this time with Chris Sivertson. At the end of the film it is suggested that a sequel may be expected. I'm hoping for a string of them!8 out of 10 might seem a little much, but I had a lot of fun with this!

Better than I'd heard. It has some major flaws. My guess is that there was some producer interference, because the set-up could have been better developed. It feels a tad chopped up. The whole horror premise is caused by vague, supernatural bullcrap that really could have used some better defining. Once it all gets going, though, the film is kind of fun. Four cheerleaders die in a car accident that's caused by the football stars. A goth teen (Sianoa Smit-McPhee) who once dated one of the cheerleaders (Caitlin Stasey) finds their bodies and brings them back to life through witchcraft. As with anything brought back from the dead, the cheerleaders become bloodthirsty monsters who want revenge. It's a pretty basic horror premise, but it works largely because of the very good cast. The other three cheerleaders are played by Brooke Butler, Amanda Grace Cooper and Reanin Johannik. The villain (the captain of the football team) is well played by Tom Williamson. Certainly not one of McKee's best works, but it's better than a majority of the horror films that are being released nowadays.
