AGE OF TOMORROW is another straight-to-video rip-off from The Asylum; the inspiration for this one is the Tom Cruise flick EDGE OF TOMORROW. Sadly, this film doesn't go for a time-jumping plot but instead presents a small cast of characters fighting back against an alien invasion. The good news is that this is fast paced and full of (admittedly bad) CGI effects, so it's a little better than the truly bottom-of-the-barrel Asylum-made movies. Humans on Earth battle invading aliens while a team of astronauts head to an alien planet to tackle the mothership itself. Kelly Hu, of X-MEN 2, stars.

Interesting in that it makes you think about why it was so bad and other films are so good. It seems to me that the screenplay was the main problem as it could have been a hilarious spoof with a good writer, in which case the amateurish production values, direction and photography would be largely irrelevant or even help it.The best part was seeing Robert Picardo from Star Trek: Voyager where he did a great job as The Doctor, while the worst part was seeing him in such a poor film. Picardo had an unintentionally funny line: "We're being told, from the sheer size of it, on impact, nothing will live." I and my friend burst out laughing. How did he keep a straight face?

The movie is so out there how can you not enjoy it.It's like a homage to B-Sci-Fi movies of the 1950s, I'm not sure if that was the intention, but that was exactly what I got. The cheese was laid on so thick I'd need the cheesy ray guys used in the movie to cut through it.Obviously from the title is was made to be a Mockbuster of the Tom Cruse movie, Edge of Tomorrow (though the movie begins with a parody of Armageddon, with some Independence day mixed in-between). I guess in the rush to at least make the Blockbuster's release date, they did not bother to even make a movie that had any scientific merit (which you need in this day and age when everyone is using the Science they learned in 5th grade.)But overall, I enjoyed the cheese of this movie so much that I ignored the science fact that was not happening and just got in to the bad acting and the odd dramatic sequences that made the movie. since the movie was made by the great mock buster machine Asylum, I'm sure they didn't mean at all to be taken seriously, so I didn't and just had fun with it. You should too.

When the opening titles of the movie started I was quite excited! Slick, professional and intriguing titles. This boded well, I thought. And Robert Picardo, to boot!!Then the film started. With really cheap/badly, composited fireballs just missing the Hollywood hillside sign, then a cut to a guy on a crowded freeway talking on the phone to his ex-wife - I just knew, all was lost. For a lot of this film I was hoping that the experiences of the main characters were an induced dream/coma perpetrated by the Aliens to determine whether they could win a war against humanity - A much better plot, in my opinion. This could have been a great little film. The spacesuits were believable for a Sci-Fi film. I was especially impressed with the depiction of the alien world's vegetation - the 'Yellow brick road' path they tramped down, not so much.Overall fails? 1: Bog standard Sci-Fi premise. 2: Wasted budget on opening titles that could have been spent on a better script/story writer. 3: Wasted good talent (Picardo) 4: A really hack ending. This was never going anywhere but the bargain bin.But it could have been so much better.Corman and Cameron made an absolute fortune on the back of bad Sci-Fi. They made poor stories into decent films, well executed - and that made their fortune. This is a good story, badly executed.Overall Rating: 4/10
