The whole movie is ridiculous. If you know anything about survival in extreme conditions you will know what I mean. As this movie was such a disaster I doubt you will be making another one but if you do make sure you hire a survival expert that actually knows what he / she is talking about. Apart from that, the movie is as gripping as watching grass grow on the tundra. We will not be watching this one again in the future.
... View MoreI think this movie had a lot of potentials to be even better than this. I am being generous and give it an 8 out of 10. (7 would be more reasonable though) The story (which was based on a true one) was pretty intense and well-thought. The main actor was great, and I didn't notice any major problems in cinematography or soundtracks... But what made me score lower than 9 was the two other female actresses. God, they were bad! The mother didn't even look like a mother! and the rescue lady was cold as ice (well, kinda makes sense in such a cold weather, lol). For me, the mother was a total turn off! I would try to imagine my mother being in the same situation, and I am sure should would have been much much much more distressed. She was like 'oh, my son is lost, is my make up still on?'Overall, nice movie! definitely give it a go... It won't disappoint to be honest.
... View MoreI'm a big fan of films that teach you lessons and survival against all odds, but for some reason this film fell somewhat flat. It's not in the league of Everest or other mountain survival epics.Maybe it's that the protagonist is so idiotic in that typical American over-emotional way. Over celebrating small victories and screaming and crying over set backs. Have a bit more stiff upper lip old chap. You're probably not going to 'kick nature's ass'. Going down a double black diamond run late in the day with a storm rolling in surely isn't a great choice. Follow the lift down? The cut scenes were annoying and seemed filler as basically it is very hard to tell a story with one character, but it's been done very well more than once.To sum up; it's the kind of film I like. but it's just not made that well. Ideal for a long-haul flight time-killer.
... View More*** May contain spoilers, proceed at your own risk ***I'm part of the 95% of the world population who is not a resident of the USA and I found this film insulting. A drug user, adrenaline junkie who chooses risk before discipline, a social derelict takes himself to the brink of death in chase of an adrenaline rush. Undoubtedly, the central character is a strong and able man, but he's also irresponsible. In every other place but pampered "America" the guy should be maggot food. Lacking basic survival equipment --a good jacket with a hood, a basic magnetic $10 compass, a disposable gas lighter or flint striker, an emergency small backpack (costing probably $10) with a modicum of survival elements like a space blanket, a few energy bars and a $20 rescue kit- plainly qualifies as stupidity. Darwin's Law applies. Being rescued by a million dollar helo, factual or not, insults the rest of the world who would never have the chance to expect that. Consequences: Fair cost to irresponsibility.
