"Mitchell"! Trailers

A tough-guy cop pursues two drug runners across the city to bust a large syndicate. Very much an anti-hero, Mitchell often ignores the orders of his superiors and demonstrates disdain for by-the-book development work as well as normal social graces.

I saw this as an MST3K episode and to me, the three guys commenting on everything is really annoying, not to mention that they shortened it and kept adding little skits of their own. This all rather ruined the experience. With that in mind, I don't think there is actually that much of a movie to ruin. The story of Mitchell, a boozed up, sleazy, play-by-his-own-rules cop fighting mafia type criminals seems more suitable for a low budget TV show than anything else. The poor acting, the lackluster action, the cliché story line, it' all there, just cobble together an episode each week and you have your show.

The film is actually pretty good. It's written by ian Kennedy Martin who delivers a Sweeney style action packed cop drama with lots of blokey humour, car chases and gratuitous sex and violence. Industry veteran Andre McLaglan puts it effectively on screen. It's a film that was shot with a good budget which shows. The cast is brilliant, a lot of well known faces although in the last scene Balsam has alook on hbis face that seems to be saying: I can't believe I'm doing this. The theme tune is sung by Hoyt Axton. Linda Evans looks as though she had been using Botox twenty years before it was invented. So all in all, this is pretty good offering if you like faced paced action cop dramas, something in between The Sweeney and Dirty Harry. Joe Don Baker is really good as slob cop Mitchell and delivers some great lines. very watchable.

I gave this a 2/10 because the MST3K version is very entertaining. It gave me quite a few laughs, I can't imagine seeing it another way. To sum up the basic plot, Joe Don Baker (Yes, Joe Don Baker) stars as an overweight cop who is aiming to take down the local drug dealers in his town. That's about it. Seriously, this movie is lacking in the plot department. Oh yeah, John Saxon is the "biggest" star of this movie, but his total screen time equals about 5 minutes. But, you probably wouldn't be reading this review if you weren't a fan of MST3K though, so pick it up and give it a shot. I've seen a lot of them and its still one of my favorites.

Joe Don Baker looks like a cross between an overweight Elvis, with that snarl, and Kurt Russell playing Herb Brooks in "Miracle." This is slam bam going nowhere detective story that seems like it's about six hours long. The biggest weakness is the plot, which has people doing things that only put them in harm's way. It's as if they wanted their heads blown off. The title character is a sad, depressed mess. He makes decisions in a half second and ends up somehow avoiding his demise at every turn. I don't know how he has the wherewithal to be thought so highly of. Then there's Linda Evans, who couldn't look much better, hanging around. He doesn't offer much. I suppose he's a bad boy all the way. I think he's just dumb and she could do better. But alas. I never saw this on MSTK3. I didn't realize how much non-sci fi they did. I can certainly see why they picked it. The skateboard kid and the dune buggy battle are priceless, but the movie is hamburger. It looks like the pilot for a horrible TV show. Maybe that's what they were thinking.
