Just came across this movie while randomly surfing on IMDB. I was so captivated by the film just a few minutes into it. The movie impressed me with its strange plot and way it is told, I mean the storytelling is really good and fresh in its own way. The two main characters are offbeat and amazingly performed by Anya and Olivia, the credit of which also goes to the director. What really led me into writing a review is because I want more of such film to come out. Also you need much conviction to write and direct such a script. Clearly its a great effort by Cory Finley.PS: Watching it once is no harm, its a really good thriller and Olivia Cooke is superb.

I'm not sure this movie classifies as a comedy film. It's a light movie, but it's more serious than funny if you ask me. I really love this indie movie, and I watched it because of Anya Taylor-Joy. She did phenomenal and so did Olivia Cooke.More indie films like this! (:

Thoroughbreds was one of those films that leave a mark on you, and in the best way. The plot of two girls planning to kill the stepfather is simple, but the harsh twists it follows are not expected. It can be considered slow, but it's clear from the beginning that you are in store for a resonating psychological thriller rather than a quick dark comedy. The technique used in this film is obvious, and traps the viewer inside. Camera angles and strategic cuts taunt the audience, while the acting and script back it up. The dialogue is a major player in this, as the emotionless but confident character balances one full of personality and anxiety. The character arc is something that really stood out...without realizing the change, characters change thier entire mindset. They start as an archetype, described by first impression only; the archetype flips entirely, leaving the end abrupt and long-lasting. Many may not notice at first, but the resonating change of character types(and lack of character arc in the father) leaves a big impact with the camera work.Golden Moment: sound work is exquisite in the film. The moments in the score of a rowing machine, horses, tense music, and even subtle knocks have such power that you're senses are overwhelmed.

This is the perfect movie... if you want to feel depressed. If you want to lose hope in humanity and the next generation, watch this movie. It's a story that my life would have been better not knowing. The plot is not unbelievable and the characters are clinically sociopathic.
