Look, I know what you're thinking when you read the review's headline. How dare the author of this review think that gentrification isn't an issue. It is. Trust me, it is. But, the gentrification subplot in Vida's first season was not executed the way, the writers originally envisioned it. That's what I'm saying. A good subplot could have made this show something more than just two estranged sisters reuniting after the death of their mother. But, the gentrification storyline didn't sell it, at least for me. I should commend the show's extensive Hispanic casting. The Latino actors on this show are amazing. Their storylines (especially Emma, Lyn and Eddy) is pretty good. But, the show tends to give the gentrification storyline more importance in the first season and I wish there could have been stronger performances and writing in those scenes. I totally look forward to Season 2.

I stumbled on this show and watched all episodes back to back! Its original and the acting is amazing.Athough as spanish speaker, I find the spanglish sometimes unnecessary. Get that they are creating that L.A feel but chill lol

I am in my 60's and I lived and worked almost my entire life in the Boyle Heights area, where this tragedy occurs. Will they ever have a program that doesn't shove down our throats every rotten stereotype in East L.A.? And in the first segment? Well there is 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back- Good Luck on this bomba

Being neither Latinx nor from L.A., I cannot speak to the accuracy of the character portrayals. BUT, as a person of color, I'm EXCITED to see this representation on the screen! There also seems to be the opportunity to address issues like gentrification, sexuality and cultural taboos, being proud of your identity when it can be easier to dilute the real you in order to fit in, etc. These themes, combined with the day-to-day relationships the sisters are cultivating and re-cultivating makes me hopeful for this show's success. I'm also loving the food references, the switching between speaking Spanish & English, the soundtrack for the show - I feel like the show has been made with love for this area and its people, not malice.
