Brilliant acting, plot, script, direction, and beautiful cinematography for 1st season. 2nd season's acting is really flat, plot is not interesting, script is bad, camera is all over the highway views of LA... relationship of each character is very shallow... etc etc. Looking forward to the 3rd season.

The production, directing, acting was incredible-flawless. It's been a very long time since I've watched a series of any kind, where I was truly excited to get through the next week, to the next episode. So many thought provoking situations and hair raising wow moments, it's literally impossible to put a finger on just one single moment, comment, situation, symbolic meaning ... Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were spot-on perfect. The director was masterful. True Detective is a 10/10 without question!Oops, I forgot about second season ........ OUCH! True Detective = OUTSTANDING until ... season number 2.

Season 1 amazed me in every way. Matthew McConaughey's performance was stunning and unlike any of his other work and the storyline was just so well written. Season 2 on the other hand...is garbage and I had to give up after 2 episodes. Watch season 1 and savor it, then skip season 2 and preserve your memory of True Detective as the gem that is was.

I have just watched the first series of True Detective, having let it slip under my radar until now, and I was not disappointed! I'll try not to put any spoilers in here but overall I felt the story was very good and interesting/twisted but it is the acting of McConaughey and Harrelson which really makes this great. The chemistry between the two is so good, I could just watch them two sitting in a car for an hour and find it thoroughly enjoyable. Back to the story, I felt like I lost the story a little bit, maybe half way through the series, lost track of what was going on a little, but that was probably due to the series focusing more on the main characters background, so when the invesitgation picked up momentum I wasn't 100% sure of how it got there but it was throughly enjoyable either way. The series has made me realise how good McConaughey is as an actor, so much so that I am now looking to binge through some of his movies! Debating watching series 2, although heard mainly negative things so may give it a miss.
