Trauma became a no miss in my TV week. So many of the shows on the schedule now start out being different, like Nip/Tuck, it was fascinating to watch the surgical part that I knew nothing about, then it just turned into a soap opera like all the others. It had great possibilities, but it took the the easy way. I loved Six Feet Under, what a great concept, the corpse talking to the guy who had something valuable to add to what was happening in his life; then soap opera or worse made me rather watch cartoons, anything rather than that. Now Trauma comes along, it is new, fresh, and very rewarding. It had so many things I didn't know and had never even thought of. Some people have said it wasn't completely accurate in all ways, but it was so exciting, edge of your sit stuff--who cares! The characters are interesting and likable and the cases were very interesting. How they become so familiar with their city and its "regulars" and what lengths they go to to help injured people. I like this so much more than ER or Grey's Anatomy. After watching a few episodes of this I wanted to go into my local firehouse and thank them for being who they are and doing what they do. I think it is a show with everything it takes to be a hit, it exciting, it's informative, it's engaging, it seems very real to me, and I have come to care about these characters. Now if it can keep it's edge and not fall into soap opera hell, it will be a big hit. Though I know it's a fine line to walk to let us know more about the characters, but not go to far and make it a soap opera. I thought the first season was top-notch. I am looking forward for more, more, more! Love it, keep 'em coming!

Can we have a zero rating, please? I've just watched the Thanksgiving episode and frankly will never watch another. To compare this TURKEY to ER is unbelievable...where to even start listing the points that make it a terrible show? Others identifying themselves as involved in emergency services have commented appropriately on various Darwin Award moments, so I shan't except to second their words. But let's put in one point about past shows on TV...waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy back when there was a series about medicine in the field rather than in the hospital...it was called Emergency! and it did a pretty decent job of showing realistic paramedic work as well as gave us some character development and story lines to follow. Laugh all you want at the dated look of the series now, it did a far far better job than this ridiculous excuse for a "medical show replacement". This mess should be described as a soap opera, with just as little believability.BTW, catch the sudden "you can't go off and eat turkey dinner, everyone get dressed, get the rigs, and get out to the airport...there's a big plane about to crash land" announcement for a real laugh. It's portrayed as if EMTs go home for the holidays, every holiday...like, man, ain't gonna be ANYONE out there at the station house on shift. Good grief.Let's move on to the airplane crash, shall we? As a former medic and pilot I winced throughout the scene...airplanes that land belly up on paved surfaces have a strong tendency towards burning, which is why runways are foamed prior to such a landing. They had enough time in the show to have emergency vehicles along the sides of the runway, but they didn't foam AT ALL? And the plane, shown as creating a shower of sparks and spilling jet fuel all over, had no actual fire except in the conveniently detached engines? Oh, yeah, which the firefighter was training WATER on? As for the medical portion...where was the triage? You do not just randomly float about a major trauma scene blipping along happily from whoever to whoever as you please...or sit around hugging any of the victims while others have not yet been seen. There is absolutely no urgency portrayed here. Either the actors are incapable, the point of the show is so much to be a soap opera rather than any sort of "medical show" that realistic emergency response has been tossed by the wayside, or the people writing or possibly directing have no idea of the realities. Definitely a miss of a show.

I don't understand how NBC picked some random third grade writers for a prime time slot TV show. This is pathetic to say the least. The characters are imaginary (a gay paramedic?). The stories are idiotic, and most annoying is the fact that they had to create some fake reality in order to find drama from EMS. How about try getting someone with actual talent and experience to write your scripts for you, someone who looks the part, and someone who is an actual EMS provider with experience. You don't get to shove this crap down people's throats who have actually been in the back of the ambulance and know the real difference. You want reality? How about the fact that 'real' emergency patients never get to see their paramedic work on them? Try working around that concept maybe you will get the message.

As a veteran paramedic and a paramedic educator, I am disgusted by this show's terrible medical care and poor portrayal of my profession. Every single patient encounter in "Trauma" is done improperly. All of these medics and EMTs would lose their certification and even face jail time for the stunts they have pulled. While I certainly understand that NBC has to infuse a certain amount of extra drama into the show in order to attract viewers, they cannot sacrifice every last shred of realism to do so. Paramedics and EMTs in the US have been wanting to have a good EMS show on TV again, but after "Saved" and now "Trauma," my hopes aren't high.
