With the tons of dull car shows out there, I don't see why everyone is hating. Some people like to see Britts drive cars that are way too expensive for us, and some of us like the much more relatable USA top gear. No one is reviewing this show, they're just comparing it to TG UK. If you review this show by itself its funny and the hosts are more than enjoyable, with their stupidity and humor. Give the show a shot and you wont regret it. Its just hours of pure entertainment. I personally love this show and wish it would come back for a season 7. For those of you who haven't been able to enjoy, the first 5 seasons are on hulu! (Skip the first half of season 1, it sucks)

What a bad idea. The American version of Top Gear is a total snooze. It lacks the creativity, charm, excitement, humor, interest, and just about everything else that makes the U.K. Top Gear so enthralling. Not to mention that none of these hosts have the charisma, personality, and wit of the original show's hosts. All this amounts to is a boring car show. Is Top Gear supposed to be simply a car show? If that was what it had been all these years, there wouldn't be so many seasons of it. The fun, the magic, the chemistry is completely missing in Top Gear USA. This attempt at an American take-off reminds one of that old saying about trying to capture lightning in a bottle.

The Cast: This is a car show and you need car people. Adam simply doesn't belong on this show and it is clear that he doesn't care about cars. I could forgive him the first season but he has not made any improvement. Rutledge appears to genuinely know about cars but unfortunately he cannot drive. Get that kid some lessons because you can't have driving challenges with two captain slows. Tanner is a great driver and he cocky attitude plays well on the screen but he needs to stop cheating. The show is about cars, not his ego. The Challenges: I love the concept of all the challenges. They are creative things that America's youth would be interested in. However the show needs to stay true to the challenge. If the budget is $5,000 for a car, you cannot give a host a late model Mercedes (salvage title or not, it's way over budget). Pick something any one of us could find on CraigsList. Also, the cheating needs to stop. Viewers are interested in seeing how the host's selections match up. The show should be about the cars so revealing the well known strengths and flaws of comparable vehicles is what made the UK Top Gear so great. The Reviews: I hate to say it but this part of the show is pretty lame. These segments should be fueled by pure desire for speed and excitement but none of the hosts can pull off a narrative. Stop filming them and just show the car in all it's beauty. I don't need to see Tanner's face between each shot (it's pretty clear that it is always Tanner who narrates because he cheats to win and is the only host they would dare hand the keys to a performance car). What's Missing: The show needs to capture the attention of today's youth and help build interest in cars and racing. Documenting outlets for racing and getting these hosts into the scene is the only way to do that. Have them pick autocross cars for $5,000 and make them go to an actual autocross event. Have them go ice racing in the northern states. Show the viewers what its like to attend a track day at your local race track. In other words, pick challenges that are realistic for the average viewer and document the specifics of them. There are a lot of affordable outlets in motorsports that are missing from this show that the original Top Gear was able to capitalize on. Of course it helps when you have hosts that can actually drive.

OK, so the first season or two were a little rough. So were, it turns out, the first season or two of the UK version. But the show has now really come into its own, and is one of the best shows on TV at this point.I may have a different perspective than some of the more vehement reviewers before me - I had only seen a couple episodes of the British version when I stumbled across the US version. So while I had some idea what the show was about, I wasn't dead set on the original being the only possible incarnation of the show that would work. The US version has actually gotten me to start watching the original UK show, which I probably wouldn't have ever done otherwise. Now for the blasphemy: I actually like the US version better than the UK version. Sure, the UK version is fantastic. But the US version has really grabbed me (and several of my friends) in a way I never would have expected. I'm not really a car guy (sure, I like them, and I know some about them, but nobody's going to come to me for information about a classic or exotic car), and yet this show has gotten me more interested in cars than I ever would have expected. It's that good - you don't even have to really be interested in the topic to find it highly watchable & entertaining. It would be like a bunch of people who had no interest in sports watching a sports show, or people who had no interest in drama watching a soap opera, just because they were that good. Shows like this are few and far between.Perhaps the most telling thing is that my wife, who has no interest in cars whatsoever, doesn't mind watching it with me at all. In fact, she's started asking what channel it's on if she has to leave the room, so she can turn it on in the room she's going to. That's a minor miracle in and of itself, and clear evidence of just how entertaining this show is.Sure, if you grew up on the UK version, you may find this show to be complete sacrilege. I'm sure once you're used to one version, anything different just won't cut it for you. But if you ignore the fact that it has the same name, and allow it to stand on its own, it is, in the end, a really excellent show.
