I do not mind the episodes that I have watched so far. I also like Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones. I found that her turn as Margaret Beaufort was not as convincing as the previous actress. Margaret Beaufort was supposed to be a devout god-fearing woman. I did not find Fairley's turn as this compared to the other actress.

Love historical period dramas, the cast seemed promising and Philippa Gregory's books do entertain and intrigue even with the creative licenses. This particular period of history is a fascinating one and has enough to it to deserve a series based upon it. 'The White Queen' was an uneven series that started off pretty badly. It however got much better and more interesting, and benefitted from being well made too. 'The White Princess' is nowhere near as good (the book was far from one of Gregory's best endeavours but even that was much better), it started off on an indifferent at best note and instead of getting better like 'The White Queen' it stayed that way all the way to the end. Would even go as far to say it got worse, and there is much more to the problem than it playing fast and loose with the facts, which are numerous in inaccuracies and changed and distorted beyond recognition in most cases. It's not all bad. A few of the performances are pretty good. The best being Vincent Regan, inspired casting and his acting is fantastic and in a different league to the rest. Essie Davis brings some dignity, subtlety and fire and Michelle Fairley makes the most of the very distortedly one-dimensional way Margaret was written, she has a sinister command without over-doing it.A good deal of the scenery is also beautiful to watch. The music is beautifully haunting and has a character and presence while being subtle enough to not be intrusive. The main theme is memorable. However, a lot works against 'The White Princess'. Jodie Comer does have to work with Elizabeth being so sketchily written and developed and ropy dialogue, which limits her emotional range to conveying two expressions at most which grew tiresome fairly early on. Jacob Collins-Levy fails to convince also with even more insipid writing and very dull characterisation that does nothing developing a character that in history was far more interesting than made to be here, he's right physically but acting-wise he's a drip. The chemistry between the two completely lacks tension in the early stages and there is very little warmth generated when the relationship is meant to grow. Which it does far too hastily and in a way that is not once buyable and makes Elizabeth stupider than she actually was. Scenery apart, time and budget constraints show significantly in the production values. It all looks rushed and near-shoestring budget-like, with dreary interiors, less than sumptuous costumes that do look details-wise out of place within the period and choppy and self-indulgent photography that loves Comer too much. Crippling 'The White Princess' most though is the writing and storytelling. All the episodes feel choppy in flow which gives a very jumpy feel to motivations and when things take place, then a lot of the events are under-cooked which makes things dull too. The characters are too black and white with a significant lack of depth, and the series also suffers from there being too many and at first not being able to tell who is who, unless knowledge of the period is intimate. The writing is very stilted, banal and anachronistic, a lot of it embarrassingly so in the first couple of episodes or so, it's very melodramatic and soapy and it just sounds wrong for such a specific period of history. It would have worked in a modern soap opera but jars badly here.In summary, very disappointing. 4/10 Bethany Cox

I don't know if any spoilers are below but just in case I checked the box. I watched the White Queen and White Princess back to back. I felt the the Queen was too long but excellent. I felt the Princess was the right length and very good. If you didn't see the Queen you'll be lost on the Princess. I didn't get why the characters from the Queen didn't carry over to the Princess unless it was a matter wanting new characters to appear older. But, I think the continuity of keeping the same actors would have made sense. There was no reason for a whole new cast. But, even with the new cast the story was excellent. The ending is disappointing from viewers desire but not disappointing from a story perspective. I wished for a different ending but the ending made sense and am glad they didn't pander to what viewers wanted. I liked the fact it didn't up as hoped for but as what likely would have happened. As for the acting and production, it was excellent. The characters to hate were perfectly despicable and the ones we cheered for were just that. Both series were great but I liked the Princess better than the Queen, but not by much. Marathoning them is a great way to spend 18ish hours. Hope the Red Queen gets made. Ignore the negative reviews and enjoy a great series.

I watched The White Queen and, as french, I really loved it. The series taught me a lot about British history, The White Princess too. The two casts were really excellent. I do like the very good actress Jodie Comer and I have been very impressed by her performances in Thirteen or Doctor Foster. In The White Princess, Jodie Comer is good, as always but my souvenirs brought me back to The White Queen and to the the surprise I had with ex-Princess Elisabeth actress Freya Mavor. Even if Miss Comer is full of talent, she has not the natural class, the aristocratic coldness, the distant beauty of Miss Mavor. There are certainly reasons we do not know for this change, even if Freya Major had not a main role in 2013, the force of The White Queen was the excellent quality of the full cast. I loved The White Queen, I liked the White Princess, that is the difference. If the production had continued I am convinced this second part of the War of Roses would have been really better.
