Horrible and insult to marriage. boring , silly, and ridiculous
... View MoreDescribed as a kind of "pageant", with evening gown, swimsuit, and interview rounds, "The Proposal" replaces the judges with a bachelor or bachelorette who selects from ten suitors. Between the moments of glitz and hype, there are reminders that this is real and it involves real people with actual feelings. One round has someone close to the bachelor(ette)-like a father or sister--meet the remaining suitors and ask tough questions. Another "real" moment is when the runner-up is standing nearby as a proposal is being delivered. Awkward, to say the least. This can be viewed as a high stakes contest. The nerves are real. The emotional risks are substantial. But no one gets married on the show. There may or may not be a proposal, but the couple can take as long as they want to test the validity of their dramatic, on-air choice. As entertainment, this show is similar to many others that attempt to capture and package the emotional trappings of the first meeting, the courtship, and the commitment. But viewers may feel like they are watching a train wreck, because experience tells us that it takes considerable time to discover the myriad aspects of personality and compatibility. In fact, things happen so quickly that the audience is not given enough time to adequately identify with the participants and to buy in emotionally. This is its greatest flaw.
... View MoreI thought the Gong show was bad. The proposal was uncomfortable and awkward to watch. How can shows like this be on and Last Man Standing goes off the air. What idiot thought this was a good idea? I hope it gets cancelled. Come on ABC is it that hard to put decent tv on the air. It might stand a chance if you show them going on dates after the selection. Well that's an hour i wont get back. Awful. Terrible. Stupid. Insulting.
