The Neighbors is another light-hearted, yet introspective show that seems to have missed the limelight due to poor promotion and network support. Very few shows can mix comedy and human nature without being preachy, "trying too hard", or requiring a lot of effort to understand obscure references. Because of this, The Neighbors ends up being a show that makes you tilt your head slightly, look toward the corner of the ceiling, and go "huh, I hadn't thought about it that way before", nearly as often as it makes you laugh out loud (which is a hard thing to accomplish in itself).I have instantly fallen in love with Toks Olagundoye -- she is an excellent actor with impeccable facial expressions. So often poor facial acting will ruin a scene and remove you from the situation at hand, but just as often an excellent actor such as Toks will being you just as much into the scene and make your feel all that more. Watch her other shows! She was in 22 episodes of Castle and a few episodes of Law and Order, and excellent in everyone one of them. I am looking forward to seeing her, as well as Simon Templeton and Tim Jo, being cast in more shows and movies.Perhaps my sense of humor just dones't match with the main-stream, because I find shows that rely completely on screaming and yelling to be irritating and unfunny. Shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are impossible to watch unless you've just chugged a few neon green sodas and bags of cheese poofs, which is why it's nice to have shows with average speech volumes, and one that relies on more than "setup-punchline-setup-punchline" repeated ad nauseam.Nevertheless, there could have been MUCH more buildup before the aliens are discovered, there could have easily been a few episodes as suspicions build up and weird things happen, so ditching that story line means a lot of wasted jokes, character building, and screen time. Thrusting the main story plot, especially one this large, into the first episode, then having non-linear following episodes is a bit outdated, even in 2012. I did find myself often rewriting episodes in my head as I watched them, some of the jokes were a little too quickly spouted out and could have been developed a bit more. Very good situations and the jokes were pretty good, but I just felt that everything could have been a little bit better.I believe I would normally rate this show a 7-8/10, but The Neighbors was good for another two seasons at least, and deserves a higher rating than it currently shows, which is why I give it a 9/10 instead.

This show was awesome. It was quirky and off center. The main story is a family from New Jersey which moves to the suburbs only to find out that the entire sub division they moved in to is filled with aliens who are studying Earth for invasion.Filled with a wide range of characters I found it extremely funny as the aliens learn more and more about humans, but how the humans learned more about their own lives through the aliens. The fact that this show was canceled, along with Firefly as another example, it shows execs in production companies are out of touch with the common person. This show shouldn't have been canceled and it is sad there are only three seasons.

I hadn't heard about Neighbors until I read the show was being canceled so I thought I would have a look. At first I wasn't too sure about the series but by episode three I was enjoying it more and more. The cast is excellent and very funny, maybe Neighbors is not the funniest program in years but it surely isn't the worst and those others are not being canceled. For me it is a series that grows on you and it seems odd that ABC would cancel the show while flogging that dead horse "Once Upon A Time". The cast is funny and works well together so maybe ABC should thank the writers and keep the great cast together. Over the years some shows have taken a while to catch on, this may be one of those. I hadn't even heard of the series so maybe if ABC spent some time telling folks about The Nieghbors maybe ratings would improve. ++++ I wrote that some time ago, now I'm baffled as to why such a fine comedy would be shot down by ABC. The characters grow on you, the humor is adult the plot worth continuing. Now as of April 2014 I'm very sad to see these great characters disappear. Well done writers and cast, thanks.

It was so great to see that the season opener brought in all of the best elements that I love about the first season. The comedic pacing was good and the dialogue was funny. Larry Bird's line, "Not even the pity move to Friday nights.." LOL. I hope this isn't the last season, but I'm just glad to get one more, at least. They've given such lovely plot complications in this episode. The job, the girl, and still that note from the end of last season - "It's coming" - which thankfully wasn't addressed. I'm excited to see what happens. I hope they keep it tighter than it was last season - no random, easy story fixes, like Marty eating the toast communication. What moron would let an alien neighbor borrow their communicator/toaster?Personally, I want to see more of Jane. I want to know if interfering on LB's part causes complications with how Jane and Reggie's relationship should work. So nice to have Jackie drop that line of possibility or foreshadowing. It would be interesting for Amber to learn a valuable lesson in how to treat people via Jane wooing Reggie with respect, not haughtiness. No more rambling.
