I've read some of the negative press and from my perspective, i like the characters, the acting, script writing, settings and the various mysteries. There are several comparable series which take themselves far more seriously than they should and to criticize the writing as hokey, or the lead as overly idiosyncratic is forgetting that the series is upbeat and good fun.

Wonderful detective series based in New Zealand. Superb blend of characters led by Neill Rea and Fern Sutherland. Lots of wit and humor in the crisp writing, and it's always fun trying to figure out who the killer is. Highly recommend!

We have an opportunity to follow the first season (2014 as it seems) on our cable until very recently (i.e. until the beginning of 2017). Finally, a really refreshing, from many aspects, TV series. For one, it is not American, and has the very needed touch of authenticity of New Zealand (language - English, but not British nor American nor Australian); the humor is very much the type universally accepted, the scenery is beautiful and, not the least important - in one way or another the NZ wine can be felt & smelt from the TV screen, for which I am grateful. Also, the idea of the old guy proving to be the boss (although initially looked upon by younger generation as some fosil instinct spieces) for real + music + old timer he drives = fantastic! And the most of all, we finally see something of New Zelands production on our screens. Marvelous! Keep on! Greetings from down under from your point of view!

I like this show because it isn't the shoot 'em up, everyone is having an affair with someone on the Force type of show, like almost all US cop shows are nowadays.Every other episode isn't about some terrorist plot (in fact none, so far).It DOES bear comparing to Midsommer, in the sense that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Good mysteries, without the ridiculous twists and turns. I like the shows where at the end, you can say "yep, that's the bad guy, and looking back, it makes sense how they got there and why he/she did it"I detest the ones where I end up instead with "WTF?"It's better than the new Midsommer, with what's his face and what's his name, but I think not as good as the old Midsommers, and not up there with Lewis either. Much better than the old Morse though. But I like it, and I'm a huge copper show fan (except US ones, though I live here).Foyle, Lewis, Midsommer, Gently, Frost, VeraI hope they keep it running. A unique setting, well acted, well written.
