In what is its's the final season, The Bridge delivers right to the very end. No spoilers, just watch all 4 seasons. The haunting 'Hollow Talk' by the choir of young believers theme music is something I will miss hearing as it would always herald the arrival of a new season. If you have not seen any 'Nordic Noir' I suggest starting with 'The Killing' (all seasons) before watching The Bridge as it set the benchmark early for this genre. Good to note the number of strong female leads in all these programmes (so much so I'm almost put off now if a new series has a male lead - just does not work as well). If you don't like your drama gritty, raw, true to life and with subtitles then watch the appalling American remakes of this genre (popcorn for the eyes). But if you want to experience a real ride watch the originals and pick up some Swedish and Danish along the way. Tack.
... View MoreI write this as a massive fan of 'Breaking Bad' and 'Peaky Blinders' - two epics of different genres which I thought would never be bettered.Belatedly I came upon 'The Bridge' (Bron/Broen), and I have found the best drama series I have ever watched. My wife and I have just belatedly 'binged' on season 4 over two long nights! You can read elsewhere of Sofie Helin's unbelievably brilliant portrayal of Saga Noren. I would like to give massive credit to the entire leading cast, all exceptionally good.No spoilers here, but yes - it's a police drama, but SO much more. It's a dazzling epic woven around two countries, two cultures, men and women as lovers, parents, sons and daughters, siblings. There are stories of redemption, stories of hope and despair - ultimately it's the humanity of its main characters (amid plenty of gruesomeness and extremely confronting crime that will make you squirm), their damaging pasts, their flawed presents, the fact that they all have families too (excellent supporting casts) such that you wholly BELIEVE in them. The scripting, camera work, music, story lines - every darned aspect of 'The Bridge' are unimpeachable, brilliant, and I dare say unbeatable.Just watch it. That is all :)
... View MoreJust started to watch Season 4 of the excellent series, and within 5 minutes of watching you are hooked again and it will get your full attention. The new episodes just started in the Nordic countries, so I will not spoil the fun, it's a must watch. The leading role ( brilliantly played by Sofia Helins) is better than ever. If any actress deserves an Oscar or Emmy it should be Sofia.
... View MoreJust started season 4 and while I know all good things must come to an end, I wish it wasn't so. I haven't felt like this about a TV series since Six Feet Under. The characters are intriguing, realistic and complex, especially Saga, who I grew to feel more and more for. The writers of this show have done an exceptional job and I'll be sad to see it end. Everyone should see The Bridge. It's a shame not many people I come across will tolerate subtitles. They're missing out!
