Good production values, inaccurate and midly realistic plot with fire arrows, extremely educated witch and an extremely educated "token?" black guy (a closeted muslim!!!) an abused child turned into a homosexual via anal rape and much, much more....
... View MoreI thoroughly enjoyed this show. Unfortunately I missed the final episode. This was one of the few shows that had action that kept my husband entertained and had a plot that kept me watching. If anyone knows how I can obtain the complete series, I would appreciate the information. Even after this amount of time, it still bothers me that I never was able to learn the ending.
... View MoreOK, I have never watched Sons of Anarchy. I did not first tune into The Bastard Executioner on episode. One late night, I heard the opening song and this got me to check out the show. The show started off a little slow and confusing as to content, but now, our entire family looks forward to watching. It is enjoying to see the characters have matured, the storyline is something to enjoy, the rough times are shown which might upset some viewers. It is great seeing actors and actresses never seen before, paired as they are.It does bother me to see the comments about the show. I do not rate the director, writer, or ?? for a show. I watch the shows season and then decide. Too many people rated it a "1" after the first episode. Too quick to send a good show to the trash pile.FX needs to give this show more than 10 episodes ... it deserves more.
... View MoreAs King Artur and Robin Hood are made up of a mishmash of tales and stories, I believe that The Bastard Executioner is a conglomerate of several of the rebellions that occurred before, during and after Long-shanks reign; so don't look for specific historical facts. It's a story.Other reviewers have given enough on the plots or lack thereof(??): I will try to give you an in-depth look at how I looked at the show and why I like the actors and presentation. The Show takes a microcosm look at the English affect and effect on a Welsh Barony and the inhabitants of that Barony. It also brings in the external factors of the Church and other prevailing ideas and schisms floating around at the time. The time period is a brutal one. Chivalry was more of an after thought than a way of life. The story shows this quite well. Some of the character have honor(medieval as it may be) most do not. Each of the characters have an overt and a covert purpose. Most are trying to survive in an environment and social structure that can get them imprisoned, tortured and/or killed in an instant. Some are out for monetary or political gain. Many are caught between two paths. Most of the time good wins out.I am a mild historical fan. I have many friends who are professionals in the historical and recreational arenas. I have been to Wales and made many friends over there. I have seen the castles that were built to intimidate and control the Welsh. These castles would not have been necessary for an untrained group of farmers. From my Welsh friends, they are proud of their heritage that their ancestors who have resisted all the invasions from the Jutes, Anglos, Saxons to the Normans. To those wondering about farmers fighting soldiers, most English kings drew levees from Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Those that survived returned home to their farms with weapon skills. They would have used these skills to fend off bandits. raiding parties and wayward soldiers looking for easy pickings. As for those who are SOA fans that hated on this show, I barely made it through the first season of SOA. But in all fairness, I have more in common (through study and understanding) with the people of this era than a drug smuggling, gun running murdering gang of bikers.
