This show is not funny. I have no idea why some viewers compare this dull show to all time classics like Roseanne or King of Queens that had such intelligent humour in it. Still standing is a sleeping pill. The stories are lame, the characters are people i do not enjoy looking at and the humour is neither sophisticated nor pithy, it is simply poor. I don't know if there is a special American humour to it that i don't get as a German but i certainly need more than what this show offers to feel entertained. If I had to compare this show to comparable formats I would say it is quite similar to Jim Belushis show (which is quite lame too).

I also happened on this show while randomly cruising the channels. Initially I watched it because I've always had a crush on Jami Gertz, but the show has some very different humor that makes it rally worth watching. One of the interesting aspects of this show is how the humor is often uniquely funny yet occasionally horrid. Insult humor is, for me, about as unfunny as anything can get. So when the "jokes" lean towards portraying unconscionable behavior it rankles me deeply. Thankfully the majority of the time is spent on the honestly funny side of funny. I would recommend that everyone give it a viewing if possible. You might, like myself, find a little diamond in the rough.

I caught this one by accident. It's smart comedy...not the stuff you have been watching on TV all your life. If you don't get it, take it for granted that you are real damn slow at humor and continue with the lame sitcoms. The talented cast is awesome on screen. The writers of the show need some real applaud. Watch it....this show makes my day...I miss it every time I'm out of the country.People who are sensitive to a character on screen who doesn't care about her kids should not be allowed to watch the show and comment on it. I mean....take the humor people!.

This TV show would be a lot better if someone were playing Judy who knew how to act!Mark Addy ("A Knight's Tale") is another generic TV dad in another generic TV family replete with an estranged grandmother, a no-nonsense wife (the shudder-inducing Jami Gertz), and children who are more than happy to one-up their parents. Few things about this series distinguishes it in the annals of TV. However, those things that actually do are things that really make a difference.First of all, there's Addy. He's interesting in any role from Fred Flinstone to a cockney peasant and even to this generic TV dad. His work goes by with only a few cringes. Secondly, there's the occasional guest spots by the great Sally Struthers (Gloria from "All in the Family" and the voice of Charlene Sinclair in "Dinosaurs") as the aforementioned estranged grandmother.Sadly, though, usually when I end up watching this, it's because I've turned the TV on a few minutes early for "Everybody Loves Raymond." But it wasn't bad, and it ran for four years. In TV World, that's almost a hundred.
