I have seen all major TV series: Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad, Games of Thrones, Mad Men, Downton Abbey etc etc etc.. and this is the best show of them all without hesitation. This is an excellent drama about relationships, family, life and death. After having watched this series you will be a slightly different and better person. Don't miss this great opportunity! Don't be held back that this is an older series, invest your time and you will be greatly rewarded for doing so.Everything else about this series has been said in the reviews below. This is my first review on IMDB and I just felt I needed to post one after having watched this series, and hopefully bring some more attention to this fantastic masterpiece.Put this on the top of your list and start watching asap !

When I first checked this out, I thought how interesting could a series be on a funeral home? Well it was indeed interesting! And more than that – innovative, funny (often in a dark way), and with very real life characters. Seldom have I watched a series where I became so immersed in each character, who are all so different and genuine. This series is not for everyone. If you want action, car chases, and explosions look elsewhere. If you want an arc of personality change and development this will definitely appeal – everyone felt so very real. Sure I got tired of the on-again and off- again relationships of Nat and Brenda, and of David and Keith – but still each episode kept me so captivated. The dialogue is witty and way above average. Its' a gigantic soap opera that enraptured me with its brilliant assortment of personalities. The writers, producers, directors and especially the actors pulled me beyond expectation into the universe of this story!

In the beginning it appears as if the series is slow and nothing is happening. But as you go forward and understand the characters, you start appreciating the pace and simplicity. I have become fan of Allan Ball after watching this series. He has created a master piece out of this series and has set up a bench mark for this genre. Can you create quality drama out of common ordinary person's life? Yes absolutely, you don't always require Kings and war neither assassins nor any criminal to chase. How life goes through ups and downs and how it changes by small small events is perfectly shown over the five seasons. The characters are slowly but superbly built as if you almost know each and every person in the show personally. It tries to explain meaning of life , and what motivates human to act. What and why emotions occur like fear, grief, excitement, jealousy, embarrassment, happiness, feel of death. It tries to go under the skin. Series finale the conclusion is one of the best and most disturbing yet satisfying.Just watch this series completely don't leave it in midways. Have patience and your dividends will be paid in full.

SIX FEET UNDER (2001-2005)I never thought a written piece of drama could show the dream sequences as they have shown in this show. Be it imagining shouting at someone while they are talking to you or imagining talking to them when they are not talking to you or the weird dreams you have about people, Six Feet Under has it all. That's what I like the most about it: Dreamscapes. The show tries to be very realistic about how mind works and succeeds greatly in doing so. Love, lust, hate, betrayal, fear, insecurity, loneliness and sadness are only a few of the emotions portrayed by the characters. Every time a character goes through something, you know it can be something that happened or can happen to you.Contrary to the title of the show, it is as much about life as it is about death. The deaths at the beginning of each episode and the funerals that follow somehow makes you think about you. Sometimes you just sit and wonder how would you die? Would you have led a life that you wanted? Would you have done all the things you wanted to do? So many questions. The show makes you think about all that and more. It connects to you on different emotional levels.Overall it's a great realistic TV show that tries to show what goes on in people's minds, how weird people can be, how they live and how they try to cope with death. Although not fantasy, it still takes you to a different world with its dreamy sequences. The best thing about the show is how messed up the characters are and how each one relates to you at some point. The resemblance to real life is uncanny. What can I say about the series finale except that it perfectly fits the theme of the show. Anybody who invests their time to watch the whole show won't be disappointed by it. You will be glad to have watched the show. I knew it was good, just did not know how good. Mind=Blown!!
