The first several seasons of Rugrats were the best. I could watch every episode repeatedly, and still not get bored. That's how good Rugrats actually was. I use to own several episodes of Rugrats on video tape, and it was something I cherished. Brings back fond memories. It was a great show on Nicktoons too. It was even shown on BBC in the UK. The great thing about Rugrats were the characters: Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Angelica, Susie, Drew, Stu, Didi, Chaz etc. Every one of them were important and valuable with my favourites being Chuckie and Angelica. I really liked how Chuckie was scared of pretty much anything and everything, and I really liked how Angelica was so obsessed with getting her hands on that cookie jar. I think Angelica is the star of the show: she was the main reason why this show was so entertaining. She's like the main antagonist of this show despite the "Grown-ups" thinking that she's a little "princess". And let's not forget the two pets (Fluffy and Spike), who added more flavour to the show. I really liked that episode between Fluffy and Spike, and consider it as one of my favourites. Other episodes I liked are one involving the football game where the babies are fighting over that chocolate milk, and another one where Tommy thinks Stu is a robot or something. These episodes among others were really awesome, and I could watch them several times, yet still not get bored. That's how great the first several seasons of Rugrats really was. When we think of Rugrats, we usually think of those babies, but it was also the "Grown-ups" that contributed as much as those adorable, little babies, and that was important otherwise the show wouldn't have worked as well as it did. I find it amazing how the Grown-ups" are very similar to the people you find in the real world around you. The likes of Drew and Charlotte being busy with their careers, and having very little time to look after their daughter - Angelica. Someone such as Stu working at home, and Didi mainly being a housewife, and looking after the babies. The great thing about Rugrats was that it wasn't just a show, but a show that can teach others or viewers the true essence of life. It seems as though Rugrats had a purpose: you could just sense it when you watch it. However, the show did start to go downhill once a new baby came onto board called "Dil Pickles". This new character basically just ruined the show, and Rugrats started to lose its appeal. I hated Dil Pickles so much: very annoying. The episodes got so boring once he came onto the scene. I feel the Rugrats should've ended at that moment instead, and the show would've been perfect. So, the Rugrats does have it downsides, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying the show. I do think that this show went for far too long, and that wasn't required at all.

A lot of us who are reading these reviews probably remember seeing the TV show in the '90s before we had TIVO and so many channels, a lot of us just had cable back then. Most of us probably think this show and at least the older episodes no longer air on TV or are almost never on TV anymore. However, if you TIVO search Rugrats, you might be able to find some of the older episodes and episodes we remember/preferred. I can't also believe it's been 10 years since 2004 where they no longer make episodes, but this TV show is long since remembered. Let's talk about what makes this TV show great? The characters in the TV show are likable, we seem to like all the characters, I mean a Rugrats movie couldn't work without all the main characters. As the main characters are Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and Anjelica. Then their parents: Stu and Did Pickles, Grandpa Lou Pickles, Drew and Charlotte Pickles, Betty and Howard Deville, and Chas Finster. Some episodes also included Susi Carmichael, and other minor characters that make themselves known. I'm talking about the Pre-Dill episodes. Basically, every episode has an interesting start, they'll show a close up of an image where we aren't too sure what we are looking at until the camera moves back. Almost every episode has the families getting together, usually hanging out at Tommy's house. Then the Rugrats, usually from Tommy's idea or his misunderstanding of something go on an adventure. What makes this show interesting, is it won't only appeal to kids but also adults. I mean the grownups frequently talk about things kids wouldn't understand. I'm not talking about adult humor, though the show sometimes has innuendos and adult humor. But, the adults in this show are middle class grownups with babies. We hear so much about their lives, and sometimes an episode seems more about what the grownups are going through and just has a kids adventure involved in it. Grandpa Lou is also a very interesting character to listen to and he seems more realistic than the Grandpa in The Simpsons. In fact, Rugrats sometimes reminds me of the Simpsons even though a lot of people might disagree about that. I feel like the characters and action in Rugrats seems more realistic than what happens in The Simpsons. The show is also pretty funny. I feel like the earliest episodes in the series were the funniest, like during the first season. The episodes after that were still great and funny. But, the episodes went downhill after the movie when they added Dil Pickles. They just didn't seem to have the same appeal they previously had. They went even more downhill when they added Chuckie's stepsister Kimi, and Chas's new wife Kira. They also later did All Grown Up, not too bad of a series and it was interesting to see how those characters grow up in like 10 years from the series, though still not having as much of an appeal. It seems like most of us prefer the older Pre-Dil episodes. Some thoughts to consider about Rugrats, well one thing I've always thought about is how the parents in the show are good parents, I mean they seem like good people. However, they really neglect at parenting, because in almost every episode the babies slip past their parents and get into some danger and adventure without the parents noticing until it is too late, or sometimes never noticing. So, we'd think that Child Protective Services would take the kids away from the parents seeing how much danger, the kids get themselves into when not being watched. So, this is a fast paced interesting TV show. One that will always make you feel really happy to watch, even years later and even if you've already seen the episodes. I give it a 10/10, but I would not rank the later episodes after Dil a 10/10.

I love Rugrats, golden years and new series that everyone seems to hate because it has changed over the years. But I'm not here going sentimental over how great the first few seasons had done, I love them, but the animation was just awkward to look at. But looking at the later years from the first movie until 2004, the episodes aren't bad as people says it was. I've managed to re-watch an old episode of Rugrats about Kwanza and looking at as an adult, the episode has a great way of teaching kids about different holidays like Christmas, Easter, Passover, Hanukkah and so. It also shows kids about love and respect and how special you can be without getting awards. I think that lesson will be good to teach today's kids. Characters like Kimi and Dil, in my opinion, didn't kill the show, though I have to say Dil they could've made Dil talk. But Kimi is a likable character, she's fun, adventurous, imaginative and shows love for her brother, sure the other characters showed that as well. But I believe Kimi is something for the female target of the series. The series had kept true to its continuity, unlike Spongebob, despite some flaws in the series and i might add the early years can have some flaws too, the new ones show has some good episodes, it's not bad as many people think. My guess is that because of new animation, which is better in my opinion, new writers and producers took over the show and Nickelodeon making it a cash cow, many people just don't like it because of those reason. I consider these as classics.

I have loved Rugrats since I was a young kid. I still like it and it's my favorite show to this day. The first 4 or so seasons were as the title explained, excellent. That would make it 10/10. However, parts of it went downhill. In 1998, a movie called The Rugrats Movie was released. This was a pretty decent movie. The Rugrats Movie introduced Dil, Tommy's younger brother. In my opinion, this did nothing to improve the show. He whines a bit too much and seems to ruin the fun for the others. That deducts a star from my rating. In 2000, there was another movie attempt, this time a sequel. Called Rugrats in Paris, this was better than the first movie. This was pretty much the cutoff point of it being entertaining and funny to watch. Kimi didn't do anything to improve the show either. She seemed to copy Tommy and lead the group in adventures. When the first season premiered in 1991 all the way until 1994, then when it was revived in 1997 all the way until The Rugrats Movie, the Rugrats went on all sorts of adventures, pretty much to any place one could think of. They went to the beach, the movies, a restaurant, and even a car wash(That's my favorite episode, by the way.). Once The Rugrats Movie premiered, the Rugrats didn't really go out much. They seemed to just go to boring places and not cause much trouble such as at the mall or in the backyard. That took away another star. I would recommend this show to anyone, young as Tommy or old as Grandpa Lou. This has Jokes for kids and adults. However, most people I know don't like this show. LOL
