Based only on 1.3 seasons I love this series. They were, tbh, fools to hold this from the world unless they already saw an end for it - I've not seen it all but the end happening a year or so after opening up to USA networks can't a coincidence.Anyway - a GREAT watch - and Lynda Boyd is SO very hot. Great fun - lots of drama and sadness and laughs - great mix. And set in lovely environment for a change - what's not to love.Acting is exceptional, direction beyond that. Dialogue has one or two 'would someone say that then' moments but half are clearly a joke - sad about the others.I've recommended this - and would to even those I don't know.Loving it so far
... View MoreI just finished binge watching Republic of Doyle! All in all, I found the series to be very refreshing! More than anything, I loved the shows strong family values as well as doing the right thing when the world is against you! Strong morals throughout! There are a number of attractive leading ladies throughout the series. Most of them are interested in getting closer with Jake. However, Jake only has eyes for Leslie. For some reason, it takes all 6 seasons for Jake and Leslie to be a family! The main issue I had with the show is the police force has problems with Jake and Doyle & Doyle PI investigations! They regularly serve up solved cases to the police on a silver platter, yet no gratitude to be seen. Various officers are promoted thanks to the Doyles, yet the police consider them enemies! My one gripe is the joke of firearms. Jake doesn't like and doesn't believe in firearms. He doesn't use them and I don't recall him firing one shot throughout the show. As soon as he takes a gun away from a criminal, he empties it immediately. If you watch closely, the firearms rarely have any rounds in them. Safeties are keep on and single action only firearms (1911) aren't often cocked and ready! More than anything, I love the accepting attitude of the Canadians, and willingness to give people second chances! The non-judging values are very healthy and help others to even see the good in themselves!! Did someone say Season 7??
... View MoreThis is a PI show about a father/son private investigator team and their young assistant. It's set in Nova Scotia, which is beautiful to behold. Most of the characters are good, although the assistant and the star, Jake (played by Allan Hawco), are a bit much. Sometimes I have to quit an episode part way through because the stupidity of one of them make it too implausible to watch. But as a Netflix user, there aren't many TV shows I like, so I keep coming back to it when I'm too tired to do anything but watch TV. The series went 6 seasons, so I guess it was popular. Allan Hawco is a pretty good actor, and I'm glad to see he's gone on to more serious roles. I do enjoy the Nova Scotia scenery.
... View MoreI just watched episode one thru twelve and enjoyed to locations and visual shots here and there of various parts of town. The opening noise called "Oh Yeah" deserves a huge "Oh No". It is loud, lyrics consist of two offensively shouted lyrics and is nonsense. In the beginning they used to insert similarly loud noise (passed off as music) between scenes but that seems to have softened towards later episodes. And now for the cast:The Hero: Quirky, lots of human frailties, faults and goofiness. Works very well. Could soloeasily if the father somehow left the show.Malachy the Father: Familiar face, only real purpose is to wisecrack. Could be left out.Niki: The doctor soon to be ex-wife Wac job. Too schizo, gets tiresome. Please go.Des: The teen kid goof ball. I like him, think he adds to the showTinny: The ballsy teen daughter. All shows need a ballsy teen daughter. Formula.Rose: Malachy's Susan Sarandon look-alike lady friend. OK, like her better than Malachy.Leslie: The policewoman. I like her the best. She add more interest to plots than any other. The Horn Toad blond lawyer friend: He is always fun, and his appearances nice and short. In a couple of episode we had Rose's husband just released from prison. Uncomfortable. In another, a long lost brother Christian shows up, turns out he is just out of rehab and a bunch of crooked lawyers are trying to do him in for whistle blowing. Uncomfortable. Streamed these in the U.S. via my Acorn membership, anticipate future series hoping the sub-plot characters stop and hope the writing gets more crisp.
