First off let me put it out there that I haven't ever posted a review and I am not a writer in any sense of the word, but I hated this show so much that I needed some way to vent my frustration. With that in mind here is my first review. Imagine a world where every single person is a submissive dog and no one ever fights to preserve anything they believe in and don't even believe in any sort of moral code or life goal in the first place. That is the world of Psycho-pass. To be fair there are a couple characters who aren't like this in the show and they are the main enemies but it seems as though they don't even know what they want just like the rest of the population if this pitiful planet. With character flaws like this you cannot relate to anyone in the show. They are either a mindless drone who follows an unfathomably flawed system comparable to and even less explained government system of the Purge or they are a murderer who understands the terrible and unfair system and it incompetence who kill people while spouting off about ideals that condone the actions they are currently taking part in.Lets explore this government system I have brought up though. A computer reads your mental state and says if you should die, go to jai,l or live. That is the dumbed down explanation to be short with it. This mental state can be effected by literally ANYTHING! If you're having a stressful day you could get arrested and if you are particularly angry or even scared you could get shot down by the cops with out a thought. For example there is a lady who gets raped and beaten in the show and she almost gets killed by a cop for that exact reason. In another example there is a hostage situation at one point in the show. The hostages get released and start running in fear of the killer and the police gun them down. To make matters worse for the system people like sociopaths, and the like, who can't feel mental distress can go kill people in front of cops and the cops can't do anything about it.Now that we understand the system and how it works it's time to explain why, why would anyone want this system. The people of this universe were pitched the idea untested I would presume unknowing of all the flaws and how the system actually works and they just said, "ok." It's a fun concept and the conflict of the show is based around the police trying to fix these awful problems and I guess they are essentially trying to fight the government but it also doesn't seem like they mind how bad it is. Even after finding out how the whole thing works the main character just seems to brush it off albeit very annoyed. In this discovery a couple question are answered but many more rise such as how it all came to pass. The creator of this show had a fun idea but no clue on how to answer the "how" portion of all of it and just decided to say, "The system is corrupt and that is how and why." This concept is just like the Purge, fun but unexplained and extremely unbelievable even for an anime. That is why this show is so awful too many questions very few answers and a lot of bad taste in your mouth. 0 star.P.S. please don't hate me if you like the show that's cool.

I enjoyed both the seasons, well made, very cleaver in using paradox's to build up the superb plots. The mind game between the police and criminals along with the justice theme reminds me of Death Note, just instead of magic we have technology this time around. The series is based on a future where technology has progressed so much that by a Psycho scan the state of mind of an individual can be predicted and action can be taken to prevent them from becoming criminals. Further to maintain the sanity of the detectives, they are encouraged not to do the killings, instead latent criminals who are already considered to be criminals do it for dirty work and are called enforcers. Psyco Pass got a lot of philosophy with deep meaning underlining the plots. Philip K. Dick, George Orwell and Jonathan Swift work are mentioned and discussed. The series start slow, building up pace gradually as it moves forward and by the end we are entertained with an excellent plot, realistic characters and gruesome scenes.

I've been doing a marathon for this series for the last couple of days and I had to take a pause for a second and write a review. The Animation, the writing, the voice acting (ok, for Japanese version) are all top notch. Production IG, the animation studio that made this, is at the top of their game, and I knew them from watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone complex (I highly recommend as well). The writing is superb if not genius, and before I knew it, I was attached to all the characters (on both sides). Although the main theme have been done to death (future worlds where AI's run things and judge us, and so on) the show definitely made it feel fresh and had me diving in episode after episode. I'm actually on episode 19.. I can't express how excited I am finishing this! Watch it!

This anime deserves a standing ovation for its compelling story telling and its mastery of plot twists. The story has a similar premise to Blockbuster movie Minority Report and also has a resemblance to iRobot . Psycho-Pass is set in a dystopian future where crime deterrence and crime punishment is very severe. The Sibyl system - an artificial intelligence network - is a supposedly impartial law enforcing "entity" that is able to discern the mental state of a human, enabling it to judge the criminal activity of their mind. A person with a very cloudy Psycho-Pass - an undesirable murky discolouration manifested on an electronic device - is deemed mentally unstable and needs to be dealt with immediately. Victims and criminals alike may be judged, all at the mercy of the Sibyl system. The police force consists of intellectuals who work with a select few criminals, known as enforcers, who are responsible for the tracking of other criminals. The notion of working alongside criminals because criminals have a greater intuition when needing to anticipate the actions of another criminal is intriguing. Akane is the female protagonist in the show. She is very clever but lacks the killer- instinct to track down criminals. Her main role is to supervise the enforcers and she has the discretion to kill an enforcer who deviates from their line of duty. Each police force member and enforcer that are on missions, carry a weapon called a dominator which can read the crime coefficient of a target. If the target is judged to be very dangerous, a lethal mode status is declared which primes the dominator for a life ending shot.Akanae throughout the story is troubled by moral decisions. Her main enforcer partner Kogami is difficult to read. He has his own agenda on his mind and is hell bent on solving an old case that matters a lot to him. What is his dark and sad past? Be prepared to see the development of Akane as she deals with challenging situations and faces predicaments that push her to the very limits. What future awaits Kogami? Will he solve his case? The anime has many literary and philosophical references e.g. The Most dangerous game, a book by Richard Connell. These references add an extra intellectual dimension to this great anime.Several crime are committed and there is a mastermind who pulls the strings and orchestrates most of the crimes. The villain is fascinating. He reminded me of Light from Death Note and Johann from Monster. Easily one of the greatest villains conceived.Furthermore, the Sybil system is very mysterious. What is it? How does it function? These are questions you might ponder and there will be an answer. The opening theme is very unique. It might take time to get used to it but it fits the dystopian theme really well. Additionally, the animation quality is great which should not be surprising considering that it is a relatively new anime in the grand scheme of things. This anime has great pacing and does not peak early like for example Death Note which suffered from a premature peak after a certain character died. Overall, if you like dystopian anime, suspense, action and like being intellectually engaged, this anime will grant you immense joy. The plot is just awe-inspiring. What are you waiting for? Go watch it! Oh... and by the way, a second season is already being worked on. Can not wait for it.
