Waste of time. This was one of the most pretentious shows I have ever seen. The monologues the main character has makes me roll my eyes. I think this is meant for edgy and rebellious teenagers. Just because there's violence and sex does not make a show more mature. The messages are misguided and not represented well. I'm tired of people saying this show is underrated and a masterpiece. If you're looking for a intelligent and engaging show then this is not it. It may be fun to watch this but remember that this show is not the best.
... View MoreTo put it simply, I LOVED this show. Everything about it was just amazing, the story, the characters, the animation, the music, I couldn't find one fault with it.I loved all the characters. The main character is just about the most well developed character in anime history. He changes plenty, but still keeps his established character, and he's so likable and relate-able it's impossible to not root for him. He and his girlfriend are just about the most romantic, realistic couple of all time. Even some of the villains are likable, I never expected myself to actually root for someone on the other side.Speaking of, the story is just about polished to perfection. It shows both sides of the struggle, but maintains it's stance that the right side is the good side, even if some people in it are not good. It has some truly unexpected moments in it, others that are very emotional, and an ending that could not possibly be more satisfying. And best of all, it takes itself seriously, it doesn't deviate from the established character or plot lines too much. The whole thing feels very real, even though it's a fiction. And the animation and every single musical piece in it complements the story BEAUTIFULLY.The voice acting in it is also really good. It's one of the few anime where I prefer the English version over the Japanese version because the English voice actors were so good. You could tell that through the whole thing, every single one of the voice actors did their best and took this project to heart. I'm surprised not all anime have English voice acting this perfect, because how could you not make it great in all of them? I liked all the voice actors, but I particularly liked the main voice actor. All in all, it's an anime you won't forget, it did everything right, and it made it's way into my heart. It's a prime example of what to do in any kind of media. I definitely recommend this show, without any hesitation.
... View MoreIt takes a level of bravery to watch Parasyte. From the ads, trailers and promotional pictures, it looks gory and plain sick. While Parasyte is definitely body horror, it also encompasses an unpredictable, fast-paced and intelligent storyline, as well as an excellent cast of character. From it's deep, dark themes about humanity, to its slasher-like fight scenes, Parasyte is a brooding story. I guess I only realised how dark it could get when I felt the tears welling in my eyes. The development of the two protagonists was nicely done. Starting out with the stark difference between Shinichi's emotional ways and Migi's cold logic, the characters must learn to bend their own set of morals to coexist, eventually creating a deep synergy between the pair. The human becomes more parasyte, and the parasyte becomes more human. Spot on soundtrack, particularly Kana's Theme ('Next to You'). Everyone I know who's watched this anime holds it as one of their favourites, so give it a watch.
... View MoreThis anime is truly a masterpiece, I can't understand why it is so unknown. Perhaps it is because people expect it to be some sf-anime with over the top action scenes and cliché character 'development'.The concept is quite original: an unknown life form is starting to eat people all over the world. First they find a host and take over his brain, and then they use that host to feed and live. However, something goes wrong with our main character (Izumi): the parasite can't take over his brain and is forced to take his arm instead. Thus, Izumi retains his human consciousness but loses control of his right arm. His only option is to live in symbiosis with the parasite, the parasite as well needs his host to survive, and therefore has to defend a human. What we get next is a nearly flawless story, amazing character development, philosophical themes such as what it means to be human. All the while, the series manages to steer clear of typical plot devices, stereotypic human behaviour displayed and over the top action/emotional scenes. The story never feels forced as it is the case in many other anime. There is gore, (intelligent) action, there is love, friendship. But most importantly, all these themes are balanced which makes this anime dynamic.Nice soundtrack as well. For reference: other anime I find very good are Death Note, Steins; Gate, Code Geass (esp R2), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Monster ...
