In response to the Social Worker who was worried that children would grow up and learn that Oswald was the name of a murderer and somehow this would cause them stress- I must say that is about the silliest thing I have ever heard. Lee Harvey Oswald, of course, has two other names as well, should we likewise ban Lee and Harvey? Will listening to Paul Harvey or watching Harvey Kietel in a movie be a traumatic experience? I know I am being a little over the top here, but I I'm just trying to make a point. If these kids (and my daughter is one of them) grow up attaching a good connotation to "Oswald" then the show has successfully rescued an unpopular name.By the way, I'm sure the name "Oswald" was chosen because it begins with an "O" thus "Oswald the Octopus." I heard the first two choices for names were "Orenthal" (as in Orenthal James Simpson) and Othello (of Shakespeare fame)and strange enough- they both were murderers too!
... View MoreMaybe I shouldn't be admitting this due to my age,but I cant help but love Oswald, and be captivated for the 15 minutes its on TV each day.The big friendly blue octopus is lovable and delightful, and is voiced appropriately by the gentle natured Fred Savage whose child-like enthusiastic and cheerful tone of voice brings the character of Oswald to life.I can see why little kids adore this show, because I always have a smile on my face when I'm watching it because its just so bright, happy and playful, and is a good quality show for the kiddies.Characters such as Oswald's best friends Weenie the Hot Dog,and Henry the Octopus are very cute and entertaining contributions to the show.I cant help but be in love with the show, and I don't care if I'm too old for it.I love the warm fuzzy feeling I get inside after watching it.Fun,cheerful and uplifting.
... View MoreI don't know why this hasn't been brought out before and that is, why would such an infamous name such as Oswald was used for an educational cartoon for children? The name is not common and most people who hear that think of Lee Harvey Oswald! I know HBO had the prison series OZ, but there was a prison commissioner in New York during the Attica riots whose name was Oswald. But this is a children's show and whether you want to believe it or not, kids will find out one day that the name is that of one of the most hated Americans in the history of our nation! Certain name fall in the category of those which should never be used. I won't comment on what they are. However, I'm a Clinical Social Worker who works exclusively with young children. In my opinion this was a bad decision as far as the name goes.
... View MoreIt's very rare that I get the kind of feeling that I get from Oswald. Mostly this feeling comes from shows I remember fondly from being a child; that warm spot that grows deep down as I watch. But here I am, too old to be a kid anymore, and I have always gotten the exact same feeling from Oswald. There are so many wonderful people working to create this show, and some great actors lend their voices to the characters. I suppose I should mention that I am the biggest David L. Lander fan in the world (you think I'm exaggerating, don't you?), and I get a terrificly peaceful feeling listening to Henry...and Henry seems to be one of the more popular characters on the show (who can't identify with him?), which makes me very happy. Thank you and good blessings to Dan Yaccarino, to the talented staff and musicians behind the show, and especially to David, Fred Savage, and the rest of the talented Oswald cast. This show makes me very happy, indeed!
