Somebody better say it, Audience Network's 'Mr Mercedes' is at best mediocre, and seeing as they're just about to release the second season I should warn you off it. Plodding drama-thriller that picks up slightly towards the end, unconvincing performances (and lines, David E. Kelley ... or is it Stephen King?) by the leads, horror but spread too thinly over the 10 episodes, the whole thing rang untrue to me. And that's the point really, for good drama you need to believe in the characters and the action. For the sake of TV, couldn't they have compressed it into 5 episodes and made the whole thing a bit slicker and faster-moving?Puzzling to see actors of the calibre of Brendan Gleeson and Mary Louise Parker phoning it in. For horror, they pitched it about right with Harry Treadaway as the creepy Mercedes killer, one of the few that seemed to know what they were doing (Justine Lupe's emotionally unstable Holly a relative of one of the victims was also notable, not enough to save the day though). So, is it just bad writing, direction, acting, editing ... who knows, but unless they raise the bar for the next part of the trilogy, serious disappointments all round I would have thought ...PS Just read another review and they're right, the music was alright at least (although the regular use of T-Bone Burnett's 'It's not too late' created the wrong mood for me) :))

Brendan Gleason is an excellent actor. Indeed, this series has attracted a strong cast in general. That said, you can't insert good actors into a poor series and expect it to change the outcome. Mr Mercedes is yet another adaptation of Stephen King who, more than any horror writer I can think of, has had his work make its way onto screens both large and small. Frankly in my opinion King is over represented and indeed not everything he has written, in my opinion, is good. I feel Mr Mercedes is a case in question. The back story to my mind is predictable, ugly and as a consequence, simply not enjoyable. By the end of the first episode I was bored and repulsed, in equal measure. So much so I called it quits. As it stands, a four out of ten from me.

I found this a typical Steven King drag out full of obvious and typical characters and a story line as old as time heading for an obvious conclusion. Nut case commits crime. Retired cop who couldn't solve the crime while working, begins to do so now while going through all manner of post stress disorders. Nut case has a mentally unstable mother but is a whiz kid who manipulates the world and all around him while continual horror scenes from the crime are flashed across the cops mind (the viewers screen) titivating viewers lowest base levels.

I will confess upfront that I am a lifelong Stephen King Fan ever since I discovered Salem's Lot in the local bookstore in the 70's. In a way that raises my expectations for any adaptation of his work. This I feel nails itfor me Having read the Trilogy, the character of Hodges could have been no one else than Brendon Gleeson The other characters are well chosen and matched my idea of what they would be like. The plot moves very slightly away from the book, as with most adaptations, possibly for visual continuity, maybe economic but whatever reason, for me the changes work. Well done on finally getting an adaptation that i was compelled to binge watch and bring on Season 2
