After enjoying La Mante, and being a bit disappointed but interested in the first season of Marcella, I landed on Luther. I like Idris Elba but I found him surprisingly not relatable as Luther; which I believe to be a writing problem more than an acting issue. I want to like the characters and care. But it's clear by the end of the first episode that Luther will always be right and somehow end up on top.

I decided to watch this one due to the very high rating. However, I was totally disappointed. It is a nice detective story. Luther, although a good detective, cannot control his temper, and then gets always in trouble. Things get worse when he is trapped by a corrupt colleague of his, to take the blame for the murder of Luther's ex-wife. Now, that could be a cool story, however the characters are very shallow and the story makes logical leaps in order to move on to action. I won't judge why Luther cannot control his temper. That's the main thing of his character. However, I will judge the easiness with which his boss decided to act "professionally" and to judge him as guilty without a trial. You can say her character was made to be weak, but I don't buy it. It also felt so strange how the story is jumping, with Luther guessing and finding the culprit in each crime, like out of the blue. It seems they want to concentrate on the action (and the temper of Luther), but still, it always looked like Luther had seen the same crime scenes that we had seen, and choosing the criminal from the crowd like that. A few times action looks like it makes logical leaps too. Someone appears, some shooting from half a meter, but no one dies...Anyhow, it's not a bad show to watch, but its re-watch value is very low.

Short and Simple Review by WubsTheFadgerLuther is a dark and disturbing crime drama. Each episode has a linear story that mostly deals with Luther's personal life. Each episode also has a criminal who is murdering people in very disturbing ways. I found the stories to be very good mostly because the series has great characters. The acting is very good. Idris Elda performs exceptionally. Ruth Wilson also performs spectacularly as the psychopath Alice Morgan. She is so seductive and disturbingly sexy. Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley, Paul McGann, and Warren Brown all perform very well. Nikki Amuka-Bird performs the worst in my eyes. She is ugly, has weird lips, and her characters sucked. I wish Rose Leslie was in more episodes besides the final two. She is such a great actress and she is so beautiful. The pacing in most episodes is slow and the runtime for each episode is a little longPros: Dark and disturbing stories, great characters, amazing performances by Idris Elda and Ruth Wilson, and all around good actingCons: Slow pacing, the episodes are long, Nikki Amuka-Bird is ugly and her character sucked, and I wish that Rose Leslie was in more of the episodes because she is a great actress and she is beautifulOverall Rating: 8.4

I took quite a liking into the show after episode 1. Luther seemed like a real interesting character. The type of guy who doesn't give an ef, just does things in his own way. The words "my man" were used when I watched that door breaking rage scene. Soon after the downhill started. The writing became very typical and predictable. Towards the end of season 1 everything started to seem generic. Basically every bit of writing was an overused crime trope done in the least impressive manner. And the main focus of the show was now completely on relationship drama. At this point I realized the target audience was the same as Holby City hospital - Older and middle-aged women. I dropped the series after season 1 finale which was basically a "not this sh!t again" experience for me. It's rather ridiculous how fast the series started dragging and ran out of content related to its genre.
