It takes a lot for me to stop and write a comment on anything online. This series is excellent. I always liked Ms. Remini as a actor, but was turned off by the Tom Cruise loonies of Scientology for which she was a member. I just watched the first season on Hulu and was blown away. Ms. Remini and her co-star and all those who made this production did an outstanding job. It was insightful and riveting. As well, binge watching it gave a perfectly fluid pace at peeling back the rotten onion that is Scientology. I thought this religion/scam was a little flaky, but who knew all that lurked behind the gloss and shine. Really good job, Leah and Mark and all involved. I have a tough shield around my heart. Yet, the folks that stepped forward to tell their stories got in.

I've been in Scientology for quite awhile and am happy with the results.I am curious as to what actions Leah Remini claims to have done in Scientology, what level of achievement has she done in Scientology? Scientology requires every level, every action, every sub-action, done in Scientology to be attested to in a positive way before going to the next level. In other words, the person has to state in written form, they got the gains promised by Scientology for that particular level. I can think of 500+ actions I have attested to while in Scientology.I am curious as to how many positive attestations Leah has attested to while in Scientology? This is important because these positive attestations which Leah has undoubtedly attested to will revel, she has lied not once, not twice, but hundreds of times. She has attested to gains she did not received. Now suddenly, she hates Scientology even though she has attested numerous times to gains received in Scientology.Leah Remini's own hand written attestations, will revel she is both a liar and a hypocrite.

I fully agree with the other reviewers comment that this is hair-raising.Many Non-Scientologists watching the show shake their heads and feel that it was all so obvious. They have a hard time understanding how someone could let themselves be used for so long.It is not religion, it is business and politics selling itself as a religion and they did a great job.You can list their tricks as a How to use and manipulate people cheat sheet-Tell people what they want to hear.Get them committed to your cause.Sell the idea that listening to non members and educating yourself outside of your organization is unnecessary.Constantly drive in that those who oppose your views are ignorant and bad people opposed to truth or righteous thoughts.Make the "label" (organization) more important to your members than it's ideals. Entire generations of families are now that label vs. free thinking individuals. To oppose it now means opposing your family, friends, and a way of life that has become if not comfortable, at least familiar. The unknown is scary.Realize that humans can be very lazy when it suits them and would often rather stay put and just follow their chosen leaders then to make any effort to change or to doing the work to compare other ideals. This show is an incredible eye opener, people made hard and brave decisions to break free from a cult. but it begs the question if everyone watching is willing to run the check list at themselves? At this time in our history another large and powerful organization is in the spotlight and they have run every trick on this list for my entire lifetime- over and over again. You may agree with some of their plans, but people with a fresh mind will disagree with others. If you blindly follow every report, story, comment as truth, then it's past time to look in the mirror and be brave about their tactics. They have used you and your family. The label became more important than the truth by far.Telling people that news is bad and not to listen is like hanging the billboard exposing themselves as frauds. ONLY FRAUDS NEED TO DO THAT PEOPLE. If you can see that with Scientology, you should apply it elsewhere. Are you going to respond like the stubborn members of Scientology who won't listen? Practically sticking fingers in their ears and yelling at other people so they themselves can't hear the truth? Is the reality of this group being nasty manipulators too hard to accept just like Scientologists can't accept the truth of their cult? Their opponents encourage learning and listening and an open mind. You get to choose too.

A lot is revealed here. And anyone who's ever been in =any= mind- control cult will do well to watch the entire series. But there's so much more to be revealed. And I'm not talking about the personal dramas. I'm talking about the whole matter of how cults take advantage of the cultural normalization of codependence to suck the unsuspecting into what is nothing more or less than indentured servitude. In his discussion with Leah, Steve Hassan's explanations provide some of the ways that normalization is manipulated to seduce the average person who already has been instructed, indoctrinated, conditioned, socialized and habituated to submit to authority to turn over their free will and their lives to others for some (ostensibly) "higher purpose." (I've written about it online in a scholastic manuscript called "Understanding Codependence as 'Soft- Core' Cult Dynamics... and Cult Dynamics as 'Hard-Core' Codependence.")I expect to hear from some attorneys with C&D orders sooner or later, but if one is trying to figure out what happened to them, Leah's excellent series, people like Hassan and those referenced in my article are worth looking into.
