    Mr. Jones

Innocent centers around a character who is released from jail after 7 years because the jury can't agree on this and that about the forensic evidence over whether he actually killed his wife or not. Full of frustration, he plans to find out who is guilty and have them brought to book as well as getting custody of his two children. As result TV show have very good acting, interesting story and characters.Almost an ideal length for a TV series (4 episodes). So please that I didn't missed this one, 'cos it is a perfect little gem.

This failed to generate any excitement in any of the episodes. The acting was ok, but let down by a weak storyline and very shallow plot. The potential was there, but all too often - possibly due to the lack of time afforded to the series - the opportunities to explore the details were overlooked. I began to wonder if the director had been given a drone for Christmas, as we were presented with numerous 'flyby" shots of the beautiful coastline. Overall this was an unfulfilling drama, which promised much, but each time failed to properly satisfy on any level. Every thread played out without difficulty, never really diving deep enough to generate excitement or tension. The characters were all ok, but lacked substance or background. The final twist was delivered on a plate, with minimal fuss or fear, and I was left frustrated at having watched all 4 episodes for what felt like little payback! If you have nothing else to do then watch it, but don't expect to be gripped!

This a fine piece of television with a constantly weaving story line that keeps you rivited to your seat. All the characters are well acted and the direction is top class. Best of all, it keeps us thinking - there is no chance to nod off or or pop out to put the kettle on - you'd miss too much. The atmosphere of the coast comes through really well - Hayling Island near Portsmouth is a relatively unknown place to non-boating folk and has a bit of a reputation as a caravan/holiday camp place yet the atmosphere really comes alive here. Great atmospheric cinematography that never gets in the way - no gimmics just good. But on UK transmission, something is very wrong with the sound - especially the outdoor scenes. It sounds like it wasn't recorded properly - almost just as though they used the built-in mic on the camera! They've used a lot of compression to try to make it more distinct and ADR people are in the credits so it doesn't make a lot of sence. Oh well, we must not let it spoil a great piece of TV but please ITV, get your quality control working!!!!!

Over - familiar faces, over - familiar plot, dialogue written as if filtered through endless other "I wuz framed"dramas,"Innocent" is reliant on viewers having short memories and a high tolerance of clichés. The amiable Mr Lee Ingleby plays a man jailed for murdering his wife. Did the police tailor the evidence to fit their theory? Did witnesses stitch him up? Did family members conspire to put him away? What were the motives for all this skullduggery? My boredom quotient was soon reached once the "shock" revelation that the D.I. charged with re - investigating the case was in a cosy relationship with the old school copper who screwed up(in one way or another) the first one. In an office full of coppers nobody knew?Nobody would say"Hang on a minute? And the judge assuring the defendant he can't be charged twice for the same offence after being acquitted? Oh yes he can. Mr Ingleby does "anguish" very well.He alone has some depth. Otherwise it's the same old same old. And we'll keep on getting it until TV companies eventually realise that this particular ship has not only sailed but sunk without trace.
