The firsts arcs of the series are very good, for 8 or 9 stars, but, honestly, the Quimera Ant arc is perfect, for 12 start if that could be possible. This arc have a strong philosophical background, with amazing questions, and the fight between the parts are without hate (something what the little Gon can't understand).Anyway, a masterpiece.

Hunter X Hunter has to be the best anime out there. Without spoiling anything or going too deep into the details, I'm going to explain to you why it is so good : First, all the main characters are interesting, have layered personalities, goals and flaws. They all bring something into the show and none of them fall into the typical anime clichés even if they sometimes carry the traditional traits of the most well known characters. The villains in this show are certainly high point, as you always feel you favorite characters are in danger near them because they're so strong and unpredictable. Hisoka, the main antagonist, is refreshing as he differs from what you typically see in an anime : He's an emotionless psychopath who does not necessarily want to annihilate the protagonist the whole time, but instead strives to push him to his limits in order to have a good fight in the future. He helps him evolve and progress. Another strength of the show is its realism. Don't get me wrong, it is still an anime with characters that have pink hair and sometimes a lot of unbelievable physical characteristics, where everybody's basically a ninja that can run and jump at the speed of light without too much difficulty. In fact, the realism finds itself in the relationships and interactions between the characters that are complex and do not feel rushed. You won't ever see somebody defeat an enemy that has twice its strength just with the power of love or will, which is a problem for me in many animes, it does not work like that in real life ! Every major issue that is solved is followed by a consequence. Even if the protagonists are all prodigies in their own rights, they lose and bite the dust half the time and you'll be served a couple of deaths. You witness their progress in a perfect pace as every arc leads them to develop their respective abilities. Another high note is the genius of the author. I know it seems obvious that I think the creator's great considering that I've been praising his work for two paragaph, but it's still worth mentioning. Togashi touches a large number of themes and each arc feels like a completely new story. He is not afraid to break conventional rules and surprises its readers at every corner. For example, the Yorknew arc is really tense and suspenseful, you feel like any character could die in the next episode, but the plot finally concludes in an unsuspecting way, without explosions and immense battles, yet it somehow feels perfectly fine. Meanwhile, the following arc is way more lighthearted and fun without losing the interest of the viewer. You can see an end of the world like plot followed by a political arc all in the same show. One thing is for sure, HXH is NOT for kids, it seems like it actually is in the first few episodes, but it turns out really dark, creepy, or complex. Just a glimpse at a chapter of the manga makes you understand the dept of the writing. The major weakness of the show is its unbalanced quality. Some arcs can be masterpieces while some others make you want to listen to the episode on fast forward to get to the conclusion. It is mostly the case in the early episodes where you can tell the author hadn't totally figured out where he was going with the story. For example, it's pretty unrealistic that the characters had never heard of Nen (The ''magic'' element of the universe) before the end of their Hunter exams, considering they hadn't been living under rocks and they knew very well what a Hunter was. Think about it, if magic existed in real life, everybody would know about it, except if it is a kept secret, which is not the case in the story. In fact, after the protagonists learn about it, everyone uses it publicly and seems to be totally aware of what it is. Put those little flaws aside, and you'll have a wonderful time watching this show. I'm really picky when it comes to television but I couldn't get enough of Hunter X Hunter, even if i'm far from being the biggest anime fan. Do not get fooled by the childish beginning, I wasn't hooked either before the 30th episode or so. Let's just hope the author stops going on Hiatus and continues this incredible piece of work.

This show is simply exceptional. My only complaint is that the story isn't finished. The writer really needs to continue to add to it because this is one of my all-time favorites. The animation is exceptional, the colors so potent and the characters all look very creative and fascinating. There are so many fun characters of all varieties, from comical to dark and intensely thought-provoking.The beginning of the series grabbed me right away as it gave off a vibe of cheeriness and fun that was very potent. Yet as it continues the story gets even more broad and takes so many turns that are very unexpected. There are so many fun and interesting side adventures, and even the small moments of the show stay with you. I found myself enjoying nearly every moment that the show went along out of pure glee and anticipation for what comes next. The cheery atmosphere of the beginning isn't to be mistaken for how the show always is, for there are definitely some intensely emotional and dark moments that are equally as intoxicating. All around this series was a huge joy to watch. It outdid itself as it went along and really shined throughout. Such a wonderful and imaginative show with a plethora of adventures and characters to really get immersed with.Taking a journey with Gon as he tries to become a hunter, find his father, and make friends and enemies along the way was well worth it and was time spent extremely well. I find myself thinking about this story time and time again and almost wishing I could watch it for the first time all over again to relive the experience.

Hunter x Hunter. Yoshihiro Togashi's masterpiece manga that never really got the adaptation it deserved because the material to be adapted, especially the Chimera Ant Arc, was too violent and graphic. Enter Madhouse. A Studio renowned for making innumerable anime classics. They brought in one of their most talented directors in Hiroshi Koujina to adapt this flawed gem and anime history was made.HxH is a story about a young boy named Gon who embarks on a journey to find his father. After learning that his father left him at a young age to become a Hunter, Gon decides to follow in his footsteps not only to find him, but also to see what was so special about the profession that made his father choose it over him. Now, believe me, the above synopsis doesn't even begin to do justice to the spectacular epic that is Hunter x Hunter. It's a story about friendship that shows that even flawed individuals could be redeemed and the purest of souls could be lost into the abyss. The Chimera Ant Arc, alone, is a sprawling masterpiece that just rises above any piece of storytelling in all of shounen, hell, in all of anime. It will make you care for every character, even the minor ones that don't really hold any significance to the overall plot & by the end of it, it will take them away by landing a sledgehammer of pathos and ripping out your soul while leaving you to drown in your sorrow as you reach the point of audible sobbing. But, remember, even through all the sorrows & tragedies, through all the tears shed, there will always be a ray of hope guiding you, leading you, through the lows of life as you search for your well- deserved happiness. Thank you, Hunter x Hunter, I can't see myself being the same person without you."You should enjoy the little detours. To the fullest. Because that's where you'll find the things more important than what you want" - Ging Freecs
