Astonishing how good the first 10 minutes is, and how horrible the rest of the writing is. Melissa George gives 110% as a some sort of private superspy who is "the best" at what she does. After being betrayed and almost killed, she decides to go back and find out who it was that betrayed her. Great setup. But after that great setup, we get a crazy and illogical arc which randomly involves an innocent child, a past lover, an ongoing mission, betrayal everwhere, roaming killers, spies spying on spies (just like in Mad magazine) and a household which is SUPPOSED TO BE HIGH SECURITY but seems to have more cladestine comings and goings than a college dorm in the 1960s. Gawd-awful. I lasted three episodes. You may last longer depending on your pain threshold. This series was not cancelled. It was euthanized.

When it comes to female-led spy TV series, "Alias" (2001-2006) set the bar high, and "Hunted", though a worthy effort, does not rise to those heights. It's gritty, slickly produced, well cast, well acted (particularly by Patrick Malahide), with Melissa George combining strength and vulnerability in the lead. But it lacks the character development, the scope (440 minutes all about a damn - pun intended - dam?), as well as the humor and the fun of "Alias". There is almost nobody to root for, and the script walks a fine line between "complicated" (which is good) and "muddled" (which is not). The ending is unsatisfying and unresolved. Strangely enough, the highlight of the entire series is the animated visualization of a fairy tale called "The Snow Maiden", at the beginning of the last episode. *** out of 4.

Not perfect. Certainly a British point of view on spy thrillers, which are normally more thoughtful, better written, and better acted than US drivel, such as the current version of Nikita or 24.The characters were human and entertaining as individuals. They developed as individuals. The plot is a little convoluted but eventually you figure it out. There are no 180 degree twists to keep the plot going, just the gradual discovery of new information. The acting was British but not to over the top. There were a few too many altercations that didn't result in damage whose effects disappeared too fast. They spent a lot of time setting up the next series, so it would be a shame not to see some of it at least.

terrible terrible show. cast is just so unbelievable and plot lines paper thin. cant see this show lasting longer than 1 season. sad to say there seems to be a trend of poor programs at the minute. show has so much potential as well. definitely needs a revamp before its to late. its just a terrible cast and just doesn't cut it as a bad take no grief agent. good looks don't make up for bad casting. sometimes wonder if television companies turn out poor shows like this just make good ones look even better. bring back alias. nailed every show for last 10 years and this i'm sad to say just doesn't have what it takes. more believable and you could have a winner but really needs a lot of work to be done
