Seriously helix just takes the cake. theres no comparing it. its got virus zombies, science, some action, mystery, thrill, and major drama and happening in virtually every episode. not a dull moment but not all cliched and overdone. The acting is very real, I keep rewatching it hoping they'll do season 3. All the greatest shows always get cancelled and idiotic fake ones get 5 seasons. Most people watch on the internet now and they still havent figured out how to calculate that into their views to know which shows are more popular.

The first season of Helix is very watchable and even becomes creepy at times. A touch of Deus Ex is felt through the steady progress of uncovering secrets best kept cold. Most characters are believable with a phenomenal performance of Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager).Hiroyuki Sanada basically plays the same role he had in Lost and creates a roller-coaster of support and disdain for his character in the audience. Sometimes you want him to succeed at any cost, sometimes you hope he will fail. The conclusion is rewarding. Some side plots feel a bit neglected, mostly the twin brother thing, but it doesn't hurt the whole season. The biggest concern is that the show sometimes turns into slapstick with silly music while people are dying on screen. This changes rapidly in season two, when the former Jason Bourne- like hunt for the truth turns into a "Big Pharma meets Religious Nutcase"-soap opera. Half the characters from the first season go completely nuts and the other half has no idea what to do about it. Flashbacks between 30 years in the future and the present add to the confusion. At the end of season two I felt relief that it was finally over. I completely understand why this rather promising show was canceled. You could compare it to "Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles", which also suffered from terrible new characters and writing in the second season and was rightfully canceled for it.

The first 4 episodes of season 1 were engaging and interesting, but then the writers must have of run out of ideas because then they just started running around a lot and there is the merry-go-round of who captured who and who escaped and some crazy-doesn't-make-any-sense plot twists. I'm up to episode 9 and ready to stop watching.

I read the premise of this show and thought it might be a bit of a boring corporate espionage series after a couple of episodes. I'm glad to say I was wrong.I do get the parallels to Resident Evil that people have mentioned, but I think this was done much much better, it manages to hold intrigue all through the episodes, while still gradually giving a clearer picture.Being as it is Netflix there does of course need to be leftist propaganda and in typical regressive style they wax lyrical about "big pharma" in more than one episode, however these scenes are brief and do not detract from the series terribly. Another Netflix leftist trope is that White People are always the corporate bad guys or at best white people being 'shades of grey' while 'brown' minorities are *always* the only completely good characters. That holds true in Helix with the Alaskan natives being the only truly good, perpetual victims. However, again unlike programs like Quantico, this does fit in naturally and is not overly emphasized AND all the acting quality is good. This is really worth a watch
