That is about all that matters for this. It was a very simple story where the ending was obvious but come on this is just a Christmas cartoon for kids. I would say it definitely is not as good as the original classic but that's what it was, a total classic, so no sequel could really live up to it. The kids loved it, it was entertaining enough for us adults (and not nearly as annoying as most of the other holiday cartoons we watched) and I think it is very underrated here.
... View MoreBEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . NOW I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 300 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA.This dull sequel should just melt and go away. What is shocking to me was that Saturday Night Live;s Lorne Michaels produced this and the jokes on this cartoon fall flat as a pancake. The special begins with a musical number showing that Beansboro Elementary School is canceled for the day due to a seven-inch snowfall. While the adults incessantly complain about the problems snow and ice cause, the children enjoy the opportunity to play outside. The scene then shifts to Holly DeCarlo, a lonely young girl and aspiring magician with only one friend, a tone-deaf, somewhat geeky character named Charles who has a knack for climatology. While practicing a magic act with Charles, the wind blows Holly's hat off her head, out the window, and onto a snowman who comes to life as Frosty, thus revealing that Holly's hat was "that old silk hat" featured in the original song and previous adaptations. Now does that sound exciting of course not. This cartoon is slow and boring. I am not sure why Rankin/Bass were not involved in this special. They created the original classic "Frosty the Snowman" cartoon as well as other classic Christmas cartoons. This cartoon sure could of used their brand of Christmas Magic. Lorne Michaels is no Rankin/Bass.The story never comes together. It also seems to end rather quickly. It seems to me that it started off as maybe as one hour program but it was edited down. I love the original so much that this was a major disappointment. It was like getting coal in my stocking.
... View MoreThis television special is only 22 minutes long. We're in trouble if that's the best thing I can say about it.There are some pluses and minuses. Brian Doyle-Murray as Mr. Twitchell is a plus. John Goodman's singing voice as Frosty the Snowman is a major minus unfortunately. I like John Goodman, but the man can't carry a tune. I'm not sure why he'd be in a television special where he has to sing when that is the case. The animation and character look in this special is very similar to Charlie Brown. There's nothing wrong with it. You know this special was aired originally in 1992 because there's an MTV reference.Another thing I liked about this movie is the friendship theme. It's one we want to reinforce in children. Other than that, it's a quick, relatively enjoyable 22 minutes.Watch the original and give this a glance if you have the chance.
... View MoreOh, to start, the music is terrible. I could get better sounds from my old MIDI generator. The Nintendo Entertainment System had better sound than this cartoon. The animation is awful, like no effort was put into it. The plot line is terrible, and while that's not as important, it should at least be cohesive enough to watch, and it's not. Now, I love John Goodman, but he can't sing, at least not here. I love Jonathon Winters, but this is just beneath him, it really is. If you have kids, and want to plop them down in front of the TV and watch this cartoon, they may behave better if you immediately threaten afterward that bad behavior will result in multiple viewings. That should help.Otherwise, avoid this movie. It's a waste of time.
