I found out about this show through some video I saw on YouTube and was intrigued. Found the whole show online and was instantly hooked. Of course, Catherine Hardwick has her 'Twilight' filter/coloring on, which drives me a little crazy but still, the show is shot beautifully. Suspenseful, frustrating, heartbreaking, touching, this show spans the whole emotional board. The relationship between the boys was very well done. Not a gratuitous love story at all. It's a heartbreaking and touching portrayal of someone coming to terms with who he is and the journey the two take in discovering each other.. all while keeping a secret that affects the lives of others. Found myself frustratingly yelling at the TV during the investigations through all it's twists and turns. All the characters were well developed and played really well. Was really disappointed to learn there wouldn't be more of this show. Great casting, gorgeous cinematography, intriguing story lines. This show really has it all.
... View MoreThis show is one of the best I've watched in a long time. It is the only 1 season show that has such full and complex characters, even the side characters change during the course of the plot. I love this show for being honest with the issues that the characters face. It can be dark at times, but it is worth it to see the changes that come about as they all work together to get through their problems. I'd give it a 20/10 if I could. I wish there were more shows like this. And I'm also glad that it is only one season. Sometimes after a successful season the creators want to drag it on for another season, which just make the quality drastically decrease. It's amazing as a one off.
... View MoreWhat's amazing about this show, is that you can hardly name the topic. It's a thriller, obviously, but it focuses on the investigation as much as on the characters lives, their relationships and their development. The "drama- part" of the show is mainly about Philip and Lukas, two boys, who happen to be eyewitnesses to a triple-homicide, but don't tell anybody, because they don't want them to know they were together that night. In fact it's a heartbreaking love relationship, and the topic of gay love, coming-out, and (the fear of) homophobia is treated in a very sensitive and honest way. Then there's Helen, the cop investigating in the murder-case. She is Philips foster-mother and appears to have a troubled past herself. She is struggling with creating a family bond, and keeping Philip and her husband close to her, while being totally obsessed with the case. The "crime-part" of Eyewitness is very interesting, since we get to see the point of view from the witnesses (who later possibly become victims), keeping what they saw a secret, the police, trying to solve the case, and the murderer, covering up his tracks. We know who the murderer is, right from the beginning, but it does not ever get boring. On the contrary, it creates a certain tension and makes you wanna shout at the television. So all in all, Eyewitness is a very extraordinary show, with deep characters, an excellent soundtrack, and a new twist every episode. Very recommendable!
... View MoreFrom the start, I hoped the plot of this TV series would develop organically from a beginning to an end. Wrong. Instead, the perpetrator is revealed close to the beginning and it descends morbidly from there into subplots that have little or nothing to do with the main plot except as props. One murder after another in a sleepy little (Canadian) town posing as a distant suburb of New York City occur almost at random. A somber and dim color tone makes the viewer drowsy, as does a slow pace in the dialogue.Worse still is a mix of very professional acting on the part of some characters contrasted with others who can barely read their lines. The presence of a Polaroid camera in one sequence is reflective of how it takes "thirty seconds" to make clear the intent of scenes that drag on far too long. Coincidences abound, obviously contrived to create suspense to fend off a viewer's frustration with an apparent inability of the scriptwriter to deal naturally with otherwise inexplicable events in the subplots. Criminal evidence as well as eyewitness testimony moves back and forth almost at random to fit whatever is needed to extend the perpetrator's freedom until the bitter end. In short, extremely unconvincing...especially the subplots.
