I must have been doing some research on Krysten Ritter after watching VAMPS, I suppose that's how I found it. The title's catchy and gives an idea of what to expect. I'm a sucker for Krysten anyway, I have loads of her movies, although most of them weren't originally bought with her in mind, but she happened to be in CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE... And I thought it odd that such a striking girl was always second-string. So I jumped at the chance for the complete box-set of DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23. I had the notion that it would be popular with me. That it might be very cute. I had high hopes for it. Wow, what I didn't expect was that it would skyrocket to the highest echelons of my own hit parade. I am currently just finished with the first disk, so I'm not a fully-fledged expert yet, but real glad about that, I have only waded in, there is still a glorious pool of fun to paddle in. Wow!Krysten Ritter is absolutely 100% perfect as Chloe, the titular wild girl. Dreana Walker is the perfect patsy as June, who has got to be the cutest nerd in the world. And James Van Der Beek is a must-see in this hilarious send-up of himself. The whole thing is pure genius. I am just fortunate to have it on DVD, in sequence, as it was meant to be seen, as I hear the network really messed about with it, from start to finish, airing it wrong, and cancelling it prematurely."I don't think that's a good idea," to quote that little cartoon girl at the end.My highest recommendation. Not to puritans, the humor is not only risky, but quite bitingly sharp. Shame, the prudes, oh what fun they miss out on!
... View MoreJune Colburn (Dreama Walker) is a naive girl from Indiana. Her new job disappears when her firm turns out to be a scam. She joins Chloe (Krysten Ritter) as a roommate but Chloe is trying to scam her out of her rent. The two opposites grow to be friends. Then there is James Van Der Beek playing a warped fictionalized version of himself as Chloe's friend. This show is basically about 2 broad big joke characters. The first is Krysten Ritter as Chloe, the B in the title. She's a modern day grifter living off the generosity/naivety of others. She spends her day with various schemes to party and to get money. The second is James Van Der Beek. He seems to have fun playing it over the top. I love the characters. The 2 jokes go a long way, but it never becomes more much than that. It struggles pass the original concept. The group chemistry never really gels. In the end, it lasted only 2 seasons and 26 episodes.
... View MoreThis came on last week and with nothing else on and it being a lazy Sunday afternoon, I thought I'd check it out.The episode in question being the PILOT, I viewed it with an open mind, however, quickly wondered how the hell more than the one episode got made.I'm by no means a Bible-basher, but when humour hinges on the topic of date-rape, I wasn't entirely comfortable... But what's it all about?Well, there was this dumb-blonde-looking girl who lounges around eating all day, yet still has a figure to die for, and some chick who thinks that being an alcoholic is cool (who, strangely enough, also shows no physical signs of alcohol abuse/lack of sleep). There's also that bloke from Dawson's Creek (remember that trash?), who's apparently only it because he's not found anything else to work on, because oddly enough, he plays himself (type-cast!), which doesn't fit into the format the two girls have going on.To coin an internet phrase - as well as to be more accurate - he's there "for great justice" (i.e. no real reason whatsoever). So, forgetting about him (since he's basically all the filler scenes... which lack all trace of humour... in an already NOT FUNNY show), we're left with two girls you'll likely be in no hurry to see perform again any time soon, in a canned-laughter snooze of 25 minutes. To be honest, had this programme lasted any longer, I'd have turned over, earning it a 1/10, but since it didn't, I was left irritated by the writers' attempts to reprieve some morality, by telling kids: it's okay to use your friends to the point of essentially getting them date-raped, but men are not allowed to cheat on their wives!Seriously, if this is the pilot - the taster of the wit to come - I can only recommend one course of action: AVOID IT.
... View MoreFreshly original, edgy, fast-paced,show has me hooked. Now in 2nd season, I hope it is here to stay for a while. Just when you think Chloe ( perfectly played by Ritter) cant sink any lower, she does, and with little care to the damage it may cause others. Chloe knows how to work the system and get virtually everything for free via manipulation and lies, and its all hilarious and full of twists and turns. But her alter-ego sidekick, the innocent but strong-willed June ( played by Walker) challenges Chloe to ultimately find the genius behind Chloe's schemes or to turn them around on her. The stories always go somewhere and with a crisp resolution. I love Van Der Beek's lampooning of both himself and the Hollywood mechanism. It gets a little cliché'd, as this is also done in Californication and Episodes but it still works and still is funny, IMO. Good strong character development throughout the cast, supporting players are entertaining as well. Good show!
