So, in the 90's, came an original cartoon that was gross, vulgar, and plain out crazy. That is Ren and Stimpy, possibly the best true Nicktoon ever made. The vulgar humor was a first. This made it unique, and easy to watch for kids.Come 2000, we get Invader Zim. Not bad, but not as great. Then we get Billy and Mandy, another vulgar cartoon, but this was not a good one. Then we have Spongebob trying to make vulgar humor. Did not go too well. So by the time we get to '08, we get this. And guess what kid's, it's trying to be vulgar too! This is from the mind of C.H. Greenblat, who worked on Spongebob. "Greeeeaaaaaaaaat", Tronman said, disgusted by the thoughts (read my review). So it's about a boy/raccoon/thing named Chowder trying to be a chef. He apprentices under Mung Dahl, a legendary chef who is old and nervous of Chowder's cooking, since it usually fails. Mung has an assistant named Schnitzel, who can only say "Radda Radda". "Oh man," Tronman remarked, "That's just Hilarious". So the show goes three ways, Chowder trying to make something and failing, a competition against Endive, another chef and rival of Mung's, and finally, making chowder loving a food and over consuming it. And that's about it. Yup. Thats all. Maybe a running gag or two but not much else. yuuuuuuup. Oh yeah, this is also vulgar. BIG FREAKING SURPRISE! But this is just another failing attempt to get Cartoon Network back to it's peak. As a 1337 would say "LULZ, Epic FAIL!!!

I remember missing this show when the first episode came on. I thought "No big deal, It's probably not that good." Don't make that assumption! I got a call from my friend telling me that it was pretty good, so I watched it. It is now one of the only things I watch on television, and I never grow tired on the jokes and over-all absurdities of the show. I also am a big fan of the voices, including the kids, and, of course, Dana Snyder of Aqua teen and Venture Brothers and John Dimaggio of Futurama and Gears of war! All I can say is, I'm a fifteen year old (I act older) who watches many adult shows, and this beats them all out! Watch it. You'll love it if you know what your getting into. The only thing I would have done differently is more references, and I'd probably screw it up or make it no longer for kids! ~Ciao~ Andrew V.

Marzipan: now doesn't that actually sound like a place, not a food? Marzipan is where Chowder lives and where he is learning (however ineptly) to become a cook. It is a land where a kid can have a caged pet fart-cloud, where what we know as "the musical fruit" can actually sing (and sing so well that a pot of 'em can get the city-folk dancing in the streets)and "cinnamini" (ipo cinnamon) is a spice that can shrink a person so that a toadstool seems as big as a house. Playing on puns (to legally be a cook, one needs a "certiFRYcate"), general silliness (one character speaks using only the word "rawda", but everyone in Marzipan knows what he's saying) as well as many other classic cartoon bits of funniness, this cartoon is a hoot. Chowder's innocence, obliviousness to his lack of cooking talent (heck, his lack of being plain old being brighter than a doorknob!), combined with the wackiness of the land he lives in - the food talks, a humanoid that is some kind of hemi-semi-demi-god has been seen to toss a lightning bolt or two from a cloud down towards Marzipan, Mount Foundue is a volcano with filled with hot melted cheese - makes for hilariousness: you have to see this for yourself. It is good old fashioned cartoon silliness without any apparent up-front merchandise tie-in.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDyXIHhhtro

This show is definitely something different. It's like this; either you love it or you hate it. I haven't spoken to many people who just like it or think it's okay.As for my friends and I, we think it's hilarious and unique. The animation style is like is nothing short of Seuss-esquire. If you watch a few episodes of the show, you'll see that there are no boundaries when it comes to character design. Chowder himself is some sort of little cat, Truffles is a little old lady, and I just can't tell what the heck Schnitzel is. Some characters are humanoid, some are animals, and sometimes even the food speaks! As for the voice acting, the kids are the highlight of the show. Nicky Jones (Chowder) is unbelievably talented for his age. I've never heard a child actor with as much individuality before! Sure, the gags can be a little crass, but it's a kid's show, a cartoon. Where else can you fit in a decent fart joke (or a pet fart) and get away with it? While some parts of the storyline seems a bit rushed at times, the overall outcome is absolutely worth watching.
