I thoroughly enjoyed this, and was saddened that it lasted so few episodes. i agree that in comparison to so many similar options at the time it was lacking. I felt on its own it stood up to its expectations. With a cast including Green and Fiennes, I loved it. And felt Arthurs character was well cast, to see his progression from the unexpected. In all this is only my opinion. enjoy or don't enjoy.

I haven't read every negative review (or positive one) but I think the criticism is unfair, or more importantly, will deprive readers of fine entertainment. This is the best version of Camelot I have seen after John Boorman's Excalibur, which is peerless. I enjoyed the Clive Owen "King Arthur" as well.It is not perfect: its greatest weakness is its script, particularly the lines given to Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes. Some of the direction and editing are slow. But its cast is very good and its story line extremely imaginative. Eva Green verges on a character actress at this point but what a character actress, she is one of the most beautiful women in the world and her performance is perfect, albeit with lousy lines. Tamsin Egerton is a real beauty. Jamie Bower, who takes drubbing for his "pretty boy" looks, gives a strong performance with again, weak lines. But he is well cast, the Lewis narrative has him as an initially naive king who grows into the role. The sex is enjoyable not gratuitous. The music intro is fabulous. The costumes and sets are very realistic. And that is the strength of the series, it really captures the Dark Ages when the legendary characters might have lived, and this makes them more believable as bringers of hope (and Christianity) to a pagan land.

Yes, we've heard that story for the dozen times, and yes, we love that story. It's telling us about the times of knights, magic, love and honor, who wouldn't? But please be careful in telling that us again and again, as we, audience, are not the fools. After all the stories we've heard, the movies we've seen and the tales we've imagined we became selective ones. If you have to tell us something new – please do it, if you can tell us same story in undiscovered point of view, we will be your audience, but if not, we are sorry for you; because of these ages of storytelling. What can I find new in these series? In fact, nothing, maybe one fact, that Guinevere was the fiancé of Leone, not Lancelot. Did I see spectacular work of the actors? Not actually, despite Joseph Fienes, sometimes it looks like he is enjoying his role and looking for someone who can maintain the story, sadly there are no more characters who can handle charms of the Merlin.Arthur looks like a boy, who cannot carry the sword in his arms and I truly do not understand why he is pictured as a favorite for a girls. He has no strength in his as well as I cannot find any charms of this character. Morgan is not as bad and unpleasant as you would expect. In fact, during the story you do not really care about any of them, despite, the Merlin. As I mentioned before, it is only one, live and truly charming character from all the mentioned and not above.I cannot stop myself from comparing these series to Merlin. The strong duo we could see in these ones is totally missed in Camelot, as well as interest of the lives of secondary's characters.I wouldn't recommend watching Camelot, as a really good series; unless you are fan of Joseph, as he is the only one in here to admit of doing great job. Of course, I did it, because of my curiosity of storytelling from different point of view. I did it to my disappointment.

It is rather difficult to run into an interesting and well made fantasy show nowadays, especially due to hyper-production regarding knight-and-sorcerer themed shows, but this is certainly one that deserves attention. Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green are great choices for the roles of Merlin and Morgan, respectively, although there is definitely some space for further character development. Green gave the character of Morgan an exact measure of hypocrisy and selfishness as was needed. Fiennes is brilliant as Merlin, knows how to stay mysterious and act as an adviser/father figure to Arthur. The screenplay, in my opinion, is the weakest link of this serial. Too many plot elements revolve around the attempt to have an original approach to the legend itself - the sword, for instance. Murdering his maker by 'accident' and his daughter, also by 'accident', naming the sword after the girl, Merlin's seeming naiveté about their deaths and too little remorse - this is just an example of what I feel is poorly done in the show. Many were skeptical about casting Jamie Campbell Bower for the lead role, but I find it an excellent choice. Peter Mooney would have played a lot more 'classical' Arthur, therefore I salute the producers' boldness an willingness to risk a bit. The supporting characters are great and all in all, I would recommend the show.
